I'm a huge pessimist, but I'm currently drinking Cubbie Kool Aid. The only place I would like to improve is getting a solid number 2 pitcher, or maybe SS. Sorry no proposals for you though, thats not my bag.

Let's get that Hanley Ramirez kid. It's almost time for the Marlins to trade him anyway.

This is the Marlins were talking about. As soon as they have to pay him, they'll be throwing him at us, as well as the Yanks, Red Sox, Mets, Tigers, and Dodgers.

This team is sort of too deep to really be thinking trade.

The only position we could really upgrade would be CF or SS, and both are positions that are hard to find good offensive options and that we have young options that look worthy of a shot.

Our rotation is really deep. You can always be improved by adding an ace-quality starting pitcher, but the back of our rotation is solid enough that adding just a decent pitcher won't mean much.

Maybe a shutdown lefty reliever if one becomes available?

With the way this team has been hitting, I think pitching would be the way to go in a trade. Outside of Marmol and Wood, the bullpen is a little bit too streaky for my tastes. Moreover, while Zambrano has done an excellent job thus far this season, Dempster, Lilly, Hill, and Marquis have us all holding our collective breath. If Hill and Lilly can get back on track and Dempster can maintain his success, then we'll be fine. As for Marquis...well, yeah.

Maybe Joe Blanton?

If we got Lincecum, I would die of happiness. That said, the Giants would be looking for sure bet hitting prospects, and unless Pie starts hitting in the bigs, the Cubs are lacking in that department.

Dodgers go deep in the tank.

Dodgers trade Brad Penny to the Cubs.

I wouldn't be opposed to either Penny or Lowe.

or Billingsley or Kershaw :D

This board has become boring since the Roberts trade didn't materialize. Back to Banks, what about you? You normally have a few trade proposals up your sleeve. Let's hear a few.

You rang? I've been pushing for the Cubs to get Marte from the Pirates, but I'm not sure what the Pirates would want. During the Roberts' trade talks, there was talk of DeRosa and Dempster for Burnett (Good thing we didn't do that). I guess we'll have to wait until some teams are out of it to talk about someone like Burnett or Blanton. Speaking of Roberts, right now it sure is great that we didn't make that deal with DeRosa and Cedeno hitting well. Right now I would have to agree with Vance:

Right now, let's not eff with this team one bit.

What about...

Sean Gallagher

Matt Murton

Ronny Cedeno

Sean Marshall

and Jose Ceda

for

Brian Roberts

:tomato:

Did you hear a rumor about us being interested in Roberts or are you just throwing an idea out there?

Well the rumor was that the Rays were interested in Murton and the Cubs wanted top pitching talent in return. Obviously, Price can't be traded, and McGee and Davis are untouchable, but I'd try for Niemann. I'm an unabashed Niemann lover, so I guess I'm biased, but he'd certainly add great depth for the rotation in case of injury/regression as well as allow us feel better about trading pitching at the deadline.

I think in another thread we talked about Brignac, but frankly Murton isn't enough for him. Another major league ready SS on a team desperately in need of a corner OF is Brent Lillibridge (and hes blocked taboot). If I were running the team, I'd definitely be inquiring about him.

I agree. But come July, the Cubs seriously have to consider getting a legit #2, and Burnett, IMO, should be the best available, and healthy. That is unless, Lilly and/or Hill can get back on track and simply just dominate between now and July. Which wouldn't piss me off.
