I don't hate it but that "sail" is going to cast some wicked shadows. Also, it looks like it's low enough to cause havoc with some high fly balls...

Just a thought.

Why would anyone hate this? It's the start of a new era of ballparks. I think just about everyone is sick of the old standard ballpark design. The last 2 ballparks with that were built like this, Busch Stadium III and Nationals Park look really bland and boring to me. Much like The Cell was the last of its kind, Nationals park (or maybe Chase Field) will be the last of their kind. The TB park is fresh and daring, I really like it. Kinda weird that its only being built for 35,000 though. Some of the other renderings from inside the park almost make it look like a minor league park.

I actually don't hate it...

Neither do I. In fact, I think it is actually kind of cool. I wouldn't want a new Wrigley Field to look like that or anything, but for the needs of a dome in a warm weather city, I think it is pretty innovative. Looks like it will still have the feel of an outdoor game but still protect from rain and sun.

Yeah...the fact that it's in Florida makes it pretty reasonable. It wouldn't fit in every city, but it looks cool right there by the docks and everything. I agree with UM that a 35,000 capacity is strange, but then again, how many more seats to the D-Rays need?

Critics of the stadium want the cloth/cover to be bright yellow. Now that is ugly.

Contrary to some, I think the stadium could look pretty cool when it's finished. Though I do agree with Roast in that it will this stadium's new catwalks and could cause some problems for popups and flyballs.

When's the last time they had 35,000 fans at a game? Honestly.

Wow, surprising.

Still, its a little sad you have to go back that far.

Pittsburgh built a very small stadium as well. sometimes you just have to be realistic about your fan base.

the Marlins would do well to build a stadium that seats about 9000 people

Tampa Bay is building their stadium in Miami!?!?!?!?!

Ha, reminds me of the Southwest "wanna get away" commercial of the people asking the guy to put a tack on the map at China and he pretends to fall down and rips down the map.

Hey, that's part of the Rays' identity! If they built a new Fenway, it would have a big green monster. If they built a new Wrigley, it would have brick walls and ivy.

Now that they're building a new Tropicana, it'll have catwalks that disrupt routine flyballs.

Maybe they could just eliminate that right field wall as the stadium gimmick, and just end the outfield at the water. In the water is a HR.

I don't know why I said that...fixed it.

That stadium is one tropical storm away from making the Rays homeless. Great thinking whoever designed that.

Maybe I'll go read the article.

I would think that the multimillion dollar architechs who drew that up are more than aware of tropical storms. Its really no different than the Marlins getting hit.

With that said I really like the stadium. I think it would fit the town and the culture very well. Its like a larger version of a fancy minor league stadium.
