Tampa Bay is building their stadium in Miami!?!?!?!?!
Of course; then they change their name to the Miami Rays. After all, we already know that there will be an AL team in Miami by 2015, since the Cubs will beat Miami in the World Series.

they wouldnt be in 5th place every year.

They won't anymore with MacPhail running the O's. ;)

Take a good look at the Rays team this season and I think anyone would agree they are FINALLY on the right path.

Maybe they could just eliminate that right field wall as the stadium gimmick, and just end the outfield at the water. In the water is a HR.

I could see bored OFs jumping out and going for a swim during injury or rain delays. It would bring up an interesting rule question though; if the OF dives in the water and catches the ball, how would it be ruled?

Why would anyone hate this? It's the start of a new era of ballparks. I think just about everyone is sick of the old standard ballpark design. The last 2 ballparks with that were built like this, Busch Stadium III and Nationals Park look really bland and boring to me. Much like The Cell was the last of its kind, Nationals park (or maybe Chase Field) will be the last of their kind. The TB park is fresh and daring, I really like it. Kinda weird that its only being built for 35,000 though. Some of the other renderings from inside the park almost make it look like a minor league park.

When's the last time they had 35,000 fans at a game? Honestly.

I know CCP already answered this but I'll take it a bit further. Tampa Bay had more than 35000 people watch a home game four times last year. One was against the Red Sox on July 28 and two more were against the Yankees on July 14 and 15. The fourth game, and the only one that didn't feature Boston or New York, came against Toronto. On Opening Day.

Look, I am all for creativity, style, flair, personality that can be put into a stadium, but I cannot for the life of me, wonder why people would want such a montrosity of a stadium? Maybe I have taste, or maybe I know what I like, but that prosposed stadium, would be a disgrace to baseball, IMO.

Be creative, but next time, don't hire a 3rd grade class to design the "Stadium of the future", cause it's reall tacky....(shudders)

I think if a ball was going to land in the water but the OF catches him in his flight and then falls in the water himself, it would be a catch.

and I really like the stadium design. it's futuristic, it's different, and it looks really cool.

So the people with boats gets a free show?

I like it. I enjoy retro style ballparks as much as anybody but that doesn't mean modern stuff can't appeal to me. IMO too many baseball fans have become knee-jerk traditionalists about ballpark design because those horrible 70's bowl stadiums gave modern ballparks a bad name.

If they dare risking a high-speed ball being hit at their boat, yes.

I agree. To me the most important part of the ballpark is how the field will look from the stands. Frankly, Yankee Stadium sucks. The fans are too far away. I know I'm in the minority, but I like Shea a helluva lot more than Yankee Stadium. If you are on the field level at least you don't feel like you wasted money. Wrigley is great if you're in the bleachers (third row or higher) or if you are in the field boxes in front of the overhanging mezzanine. Anywhere else and you might and probably do, have an obstructed view. I never like the upper decks at Wrigley.

OMG yes. Just dreadfully boring baseball parks. Aside from the neatness factor of being in a giant dome, the Astrodome was pretty terrible as well.

I think its a beautiful design and creative as heck. As long as it actually works, it should be awesome. And I also like that they limited the number of seats. I'd rather have a small stadium tightly packed than a huge stadium that has fans scattered all around.
