  1. well, dusty's not the GM for starters... oh, I didn't know that...
  2. How the hell did Dusty not sign him?!?!
  3. earth2sean, you need to wise-up man...you're totally enabling this thread.
  4. Should we feel bad for Wuertz, who they thought was named Jason Marquis...or for Marquis, who didn't get his picture taken?
  5. http://cache4.gettyimages.com/xc/79991845.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF1935FB17706AA75D2017D26BAA5CA8B5E96E30A760B0D811297 wtf
  6. I would say Cap Anson definitely deserves a spot...
  7. Jesus, look at the size of Murts forearms... Yeah, he's kind of got fat guy wrists.
  8. You don't think the manner in which leadership conducts themselves has anything to do with the way the rest of a "business" conducts itself? I don't think anybody is saying Tony held a gun to their heads and said "Drink or you're cut from the team", but I certainly don't think he has exactly provided an environment where drinking and driving, PEDs, and recreational drug use are strongly discouraged. For all the stuff that went on with LaRussa before the initial incident with Hancock happened, you would think somebody would have taken the bull by the horns and said something to the guy about scaling back the partying a little. I definitely don't think it should...that's my point. If some idiot mimics his manager or thinks because "he does it, I can do it", that's hardly the manager's fault. These aren't middle schoolers, they can make their own decisions. He's responsible for his own drug problems, not his players. LaRussa probably should have talked to guys who had obvious PED or alcohol problems (and he might have, I don't know) but he shouldn't have to police them.
  9. That last quote makes me feel good. Darn tooting. At this point, I'm not sure he's worth Gallagher alone. I should know this after 228 pages, but does Belkast know enough about the guys we are offering that he can tell what a laughable deal is?
  10. yeah i know, they should stick to the articles they usually make fun of, the articles about scrappy white players who play the game the right way. Agreed. And if they could actually make it funny, that might even be better. Uhhh...I'm confused.
  11. Tony LaRussa was manager of those Cardinals teams when McGwire played, Kile died with dope in the bathroom, Hancock died drunk in a car accident and on and on. At least ten years+ of St. Louis leadership and looking the other way. I'm just thankful that Leonard Little plays for the Rams and got off light for drinking and then killing 3 people with his SUV. The Genius would have made him a bench coach. Do you honestly think that these grown men are talked into drinking and drugging by their manager, or that he encourages that kind of behavior? You think a 26 year old man tries to emulate his drunken coach because he respects him so much? I don't think a manager has much to do with any players behavior off the field.
  12. Just wait till he makes Braun lay down like 50 sac bunts...
  13. usually cub-killers suck. trot doesn't suck. He's declined each of the last 3 years and was awful last year. He better not hurt us this year, although I'm not sure it can get any worse than Augie having a 1.101 OPS in the playoffs against us last year. But I think I recall that Augie was one of Sutcliffe's difference makers in that series, so it wasn't unexpected. (Theriot was one for the Cubs of course.)
  14. Another clubhouse rapist is the last thing we need.
  15. It depends on the value. For example, if Murton's value is less than Marlon Byrd's to every team, then I'd rather keep him. If Baltimore or San Diego are willing to put a higher price tag on him (the two teams most rumored to be interested) then I'd deal him. I think the Cubs want to see who their other OF is going to be before dealing Murton. They just can't deal him for a prospect right now without another trade because that would leave the bench too thin. Murton is a sucky bench player anyway. Plus, the way I see it (assuming we carry 12 pitchers like usual) our bench could live without him. I think our bench as of now would be Ward, Fontenot, Cedeno, Blanco, Murton. Replace Murton with Fuld - problem solved. Then you have two players (Ward, Fuld) who can play OF. But I do understand his value is probably minimal right now. How is Murton a sucky bench player?
  16. Neither do I. In fact, I think it is actually kind of cool. I wouldn't want a new Wrigley Field to look like that or anything, but for the needs of a dome in a warm weather city, I think it is pretty innovative. Looks like it will still have the feel of an outdoor game but still protect from rain and sun. Yeah...the fact that it's in Florida makes it pretty reasonable. It wouldn't fit in every city, but it looks cool right there by the docks and everything. I agree with UM that a 35,000 capacity is strange, but then again, how many more seats to the D-Rays need? Tampa Bay is building their stadium in Miami!?!?!?!?! Ha, reminds me of the Southwest "wanna get away" commercial of the people asking the guy to put a tack on the map at China and he pretends to fall down and rips down the map. I don't know why I said that...fixed it.

  18. I actually don't hate it...
  19. I'd be surprised if he was on the opening day roster, but we have nothing resembling depth in the OF. Yeah, the indications are that only one of Pie or Fuld will be on the roster, so my guess is that Fuld will be the starting CF for Iowa. As far as OF depth, if the Cubs cannot make a trade, I think they'll go with Murton as the 4th OF and then a combination of DeRosa/Cedeno/Theriot as the 5th OF. And Ward as well...
  20. And I would be pissed.
  21. no Then I will ask again. Why does a bullet stop (using the theory of only minimal wind resistence as the slowing force)? Why is a javelin not thrown more on a line? Please explain how gravity does not have an effect on the slowing process. Gravity pulls you towards the Earth. Hitting the Earth stops you, not gravity. Gravity is pulling you straight down, towards the center of the Earth. It in no way affects your momentum perpendicular to the surface (forward). Air resistance slows you down in this direction, not gravity. Again, a force pulling down doesn't slow the forward progress of an item in air? Only wind resistance slows the object? I would think these two factors worked in combination to slow items. Well I studied Genetics and wasn't that great at Physics, but I will have to respectfully disagree. Maybe think of it like this. If you set a ball on a perfectly horizontal table, it won't roll...right? Gravity can't move an object horizontally, so how could it slow you down.
  22. I always said "juicy burst" I guess it would be sudden too though.
