  1. What guy? Who said that? Everyone knows that an out is an out...except for a large number of baseball "insiders" who think that striking out is the worst thing a human being can do. They'd rather Theriot grounded weakly to the pitcher so he could show how much he can hustle, and still be out by a mile.
  2. All posters are saying is that what we're giving up is too much for Roberts, since we already have DeRosa. We would all rather have Soriano bat fifth and Roberts lead-off than Soriano leading off and DeRosa batting 6th or whatever, but it's the other things we'd be giving up to accomplish the former that make the deal unappealing.
  3. If we're giving up a package including Pie and Hill, I'd hope it was to land Santana.
  4. Wait - how much better than DeRosa is he exactly? About this much... http://blogs.chron.com/whitehouse/archives/negroponteafp.jpg
  5. Looks like this years crappy utility infielders are crappy middle relievers. I just hope he can catch the ball.
  6. Enough so that you can say BR, and everyone knows what you're talking about.
  7. That guy that used to pitch for the Sox? He was pretty decent at a time right? Don't know much about him.
  8. Does anyone have projection stats for next year...Hill vs. Bedard... Will Bedard make us that much better if we have to give up Hill?
  9. That's sweet that they did it in Times New Roman font...I like it.
  10. Would've said Dwight Gooden...but I don't think he had 200 wins.
  11. I would rather give the Padres something like Murton and Patterson/Colvin/something for Greene and let DeRosa play 2nd. I would too except I don't think the Padres would go for that. Who would play SS for them to replace Greene? I wonder if they would have gone for Murton, Infante and some OK prospect.
  12. hmmm...this seems pretty ok... how would he "know" that?
  13. I would rather give the Padres something like Murton and Patterson/Colvin/something for Greene and let DeRosa play 2nd.
  14. I don't know why anybody would assume that. He's a big fat 38 year old coming off surgery. He was basically just above average at his best. And barely hanging onto average recently. I would not assume that he'll be able to maintain averageness even if he is healthy. I think the fact that he's always been average to a little above average, and that the surgery was not on his arm, and that he shouldn't decline that much over 1 year are all reasons to assume he'll be about average.
  15. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7055 More love for Soto. Did everyone else know Prospectus liked Vitters so much?
  16. This deal just gives us a few more options. If Jim needed to sign Lieber so he'd feel ok about dealing Dempster or Marquis, then it's a good move. I'm still assuming we're on the market for a serious SP upgrade I guess. Lieber's not our answer, but this deal can only help us.
  17. Maddux' numbers would look pretty good about now. ya, since he had 39 wins in his 2 full seasons here.....second to only Z I'd say if Lieber did that it'd be a Cardinalesque reclamation There's no way this is true. EDIT: He had 29 wins...typo I guess.
  18. Wouldn't it be great to have a rotation of Zambrano, Lilly, Marquis, Lieber and Dempster? Great for the Brewers. Although, ABuck is clearly joking about trading Hill, I hope Hendry doesn't do something stupid and trade Hill to the O's for Roberts. Luckily, Angelos would veto that trade anyways.
  19. Yeah, if they gave him any real money, he's not competing for anything. He's got the spot. Hopefully they trade Marquis and/or Dempster. marquis and dempster both in a package for burnett!?!? You read my mind...give them half of Marquis remaining salary and call it a deal.
  20. That first trade sucks for us...so I won't do it. Also, why do you think the O's would take Ellsbury and Gallagher + one guy for Roberts and Bedard when they won't take Gallagher, Murton and Cedano for Roberts by himself.
  21. Now they'll be competitive in 2008. Good offseason for the Sox.
  22. But big goofy lefties like this only do well if they get to do it against the Cubs.
  23. The OF is probably Murton. Listen to 1300 for the updates live Would they consider Colvin an upgrade over Cedano. I would prefer either of them to Murton. A Murton/Ward bench would be nice to hang onto.
  24. If the Cubs could get Burnett, this would be a very good offseason. I'm just not sure Hendry thinks that far ahead.
