  1. I've got that vid saved on my computer. I'll email it to ya. You'd better.
  2. I always liked that guy...can someone post the video where he took to long to get in the box, the ump told the pitcher to go then Glenallen jumps in and smokes a single/double or whatever. I can't find it on youtube.
  3. This thread is so much fun though. I would be pissed if the mods started messing with it. Any "real" updates are posted in the title with a pg. reference anyway. If it says "OH mini update p.183", and there are all of a sudden 201 pages, everyone knows DueceBasemen or wrigley23 made a post or two. Please mods, do not interfere with the future of this thread.
  4. Hey, if I can't own another human, why does Carrie Muskat get to own a dog. I know...not funny
  5. Bickering, but worth reading. Probably more so than any news on the Roberts trade would be.
  6. Someone already said this, but: (SF + SH + 1.5*BB + 1.5*HBP + 1.5*SB + 2*1B + 3*2B + 4*3B + 5*HR)/(SF+SH+BB+HBP+SB+CS+AB) /= (1.5*BB + 1.5*HBP + 1.5*SB + 2*1B + 3*2B + 4*3B + 5*HR)/(BB+HBP+SB+CS+AB) In fact, since the numerator must be larger than the denominator in this case, adding SF and SH (essentially a constant) to both will always lower the value of Raw. Adding a constant to both the numerator and denominator will make your answer approach 1. A simple example: 100 / 50 > (10+100) / (10+50) I like that SF's and SH's lower your Raw, since you did after all make an out. It's a decent amount better than just any other out though, and this equation agrees.

  8. Ah, the marketplace of ideas.... If you want to get into a debate about whether John Mabry is better than Albert Pujols, you're welcome to. You're still going to get laughed at for arguing something that's so obviously wrong. You're forgetting that John Mabry is known to buy at least 2 drinks a night for his teammates when they go out after home wins, which in my league is worth 59 points a month.
  9. Does getting CS give you negative points. Serious question. I mean, interceptions or fumbles do in football. They really should.
  10. Look at Greene's splits away from PetCo park. A case can be made that, for a SS, he's actually quite a bit better than average to below average at the plate when he's not playing at the best pitchers park in baseball. He's a fly-ball hitter and that park just is not kind to his numbers. Or he was better on the road because he likes when people are yelling at him and hassling him. Or he doesnt feel pressure on the road like he does at home. No one knows. I agree that PetCo is a harder park to hit HR's in, but no one is for certain that he would put up his road numbers all the time if he was on the Cubs. Stop doing that. We're trying to argue for what's probable, not definite.
  11. Oops, you're wrong again. How can I be wrong on my opinion? I think I know what I want. And if I would rather have Roberts and Theriot then thats a fact. I cant be wrong about that. I would like to have Roberts and DeRosa, but I dont think they would move Mark to SS. I think I am taller than Shaq...there...another wrong opinion. No because you can actual test that and prove that. If you said "I think I am a better basketball player than Shaq." Then you wouldnt be wrong, because that is your opinion that can't be tested with 100% accuracy. Just stop with this nonsense. It's not nonsense, I was just being a prick to prove a point. Opinions can be wrong. Nothing is 100%, but Green + DeRosa is very probably a more productive duo that Theriot + Roberts. Theriot could have a great year and hit like 20 HR's with a .360 OBP. It is very unlikely. I think you are underestimating how below average Theriot is.

  13. If this is true, it would be nice if this "silent majority" would pipe up a little more often. These kind of arguments are a lot of fun to read. That said, why is it so hard to understand why having a typical "leadoff" type hitter is meaningless. You all admit that a team full of Pujols', Vlad's and Miggy's would be awesome, and I agree that it would be impossible to afford 8 or 9 guys like this, but if this super team would do well with no speedy 8-10 HR, .375 OBP guys, why won't you admit that a speedy 8-10 HR, .375 OBP guy is not a necessity on any team. The reason Roberts helps this team is that he is a good player, not because he is a good "leadoff guy". This has been said a dozen times. The reason Soriano leading off isn't that bad is because he's still a good hitter, even though he strikes out a lot. You want your good hitters at the top of the line-up so that they will get more at bats. Whether they steal bases or not is irrelevant. Theriot steals bases pretty well...but batting him second was a horrible idea since he is not very good at anything else. He got a lot of at bats, and a lot of them were poor. The reason I think it's hard to win this argument for the "new school" guys is because Roberts is a good player. He would do well in the leadoff spot because he is good, so people are using more flawed logic to imply that he is well suited for the leadoff spot because of some specific trait, instead of just his overall hitting abilities. Whatever, at least this thread has some new energy. I think the main argument is that I want Soriano out of the leadoff spot. I want his power and RBI potential lower in the lineup. Then you put a guy like Roberts in the leadoff spot whom doesnt really have that RBI potential because he doesnt hit for power so we arent hurting him by putting him there, and he will get on base for the other guys to drive him in. The guy at the top of the lineup should get on base, while the other guys should drive him in. Soriano is made to drive people in but he is not cuz he is at the top of the lineup. I think these are your main points, but your arguments as to why these things are true are what's being questioned. Also, I think "RBI potential" is a stupid term, since what you mean is "power".

  15. Macias takes my top spot, but yeah - Hundley was godawful. I'll vote for Mel Rojas...this is fun.
  16. What, because I made it up Dusty can't have it? I don't think there's anything late about it. Gotcha...touche...
  17. What, because I made it up Dusty can't have it?
  18. That 98.6% comment would be funny coming from some managers, but since it's Dusty, I'll assume he's displaying signs of late onset Down Syndrome.
  19. I believe GEOVANY has already called his uncle Guido. It'll be taken care of.
  20. Or Schneider and Castro in NY...etc...
  21. "Can anyone be this good"?!??! That's hilarious. Unless you have like A-Rod or Pujols on the cover, that quote does not belong.
  22. Man, these seem pretty bad...
  23. What would those be if you were really negative? Demp is committed to an asylum when he realizes how lame he would have been as a starter and Marquis develops a severe allergy to leather causing his pitching hand to rot off. We might be better off this way though. :-k
