I dont know if this has been posted anywhere yet but just saw this on ESPN:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3224091

seems like its pretty darn close!

If this is indeed what is holding the trade i would imagine that the deal can be announced tomorrow or saturday. If the mariners fix the paperwork this afternoon i would imagine Sherill and Jones would get check by the orioles tomorrow and then the deal would get announced. Anyway i can't imagine what the reaction would be in here if Roberts gets traded to the indians the next day after Bedard is gone.

We'd have to keep the other thread going in perpetuity, in honor of the legendary status of a 150+ page thread on a trade that didn't happen. Kind of an alternative universe 72 Dolphins toasting champagne when the last team loses every year.

BTW, are they going to quit doing that crap if the Pats win?

They don't do it now.

They don't as an organized entire-team reunion event, but Buoniconti certainly does so, I believe with Dick Anderson and Garo as they call Shula. And Anderson sent the Chargers a case of Dom when they beat the Colts in '05. And most annoyingly of all, Berman mentions it every season with the popping sound in the background.

Wilkerson to Seattle official apparently.

What?

Brad Wilkerson has signed with Seattle... which wouldn't make much sense if this trade doesn't go through, what with Ibanez, Ichiro, and Jones set in the outfield, with Sexson at first, and Vidro the DH.

Yeah, it was a move that originally was intended to be made after the Bedard trade as as countermove for losing Jones. They were originally holding the signing back until after Bedard was dealt, but I'm assuming they signed him because either A) they are just about set to acquire him or B) They are still confident in the deal, and Wilkerson's agent is getting pissed that this verbal agreement isn't going through yet.

Bedard saga to be resolved soon

The Erik Bedard trade saga is expected to be resolved within the next couple of days as the Orioles and Seattle Mariners attempt to resolve issues that stalled a deal that was nearly completed earlier this week.

ESPN.com first reported that the holdup of the deal, which would send Bedard to the Mariners for young center fielder Adam Jones, reliever George Sherrill and three pitching prospects, is a "rules issue."

The story said that the Orioles are trying to acquire "written language" from the Mariners that would allow the Orioles to pull out of the deal if Jones or Sherrill failed his physical.

No mention of Roberts

With the most recent rumbling being two players going back to Baltimore could it be Marmol and Gallegher for Roberts? Giving the Orioles a closer they think they need right now?

MacPhail had been asking for Marmol, but I can't see Hendry and Lou being willing to give him up.

That deal wouldn't surprise me at all. Another thing to consider is the Orioles could be having 40-man problems and might want a prospect that they won't have to roster. Does Ceda or Burke fit that description?

According to the Baltimore Sun, "the Erik Bedard trade saga is expected to be resolved soon."

The newspaper notes that the two sides expect the trade "to be resolved one way or another in the next couple of days," which suggests that there's still a chance of Bedard remaining in Baltimore. There's speculation that the deal is being held up over details involving the physical exams for each player, with Orioles owner Peter Angelos involved in the delays.

Should the Bedard trade finally happen, the Orioles would likely get Sherril from Seattle and would slot him into the back end of the bullpen. Doesn't necessarily dictate Marmol's inclusion, but they may look elsewhere in our system.

Let me guess, he wants a phrenology examination of each player?

The Erik Bedard-to-Seattle trade could be announced later Monday or on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

The Baltimore Sun agrees that it's just the physicals standing in the way and maybe only the one for Adam Jones. The Orioles are expected to get Jones, George Sherrill, Chris Tillman, Kam Mickolio and Tony Butler from the Mariners for Bedard.
