Belkast says he was told it wasn't as likely Roberts will be dealt as it was a month ago.

And..

The Cubs offer is almost laughable at this point.

That last quote makes me feel good.

Darn tooting.

At this point, I'm not sure he's worth Gallagher alone.

From Jan. 11:

roberts is a huge upgrade at 2B. He is the 5th rated 2B in baseball & is an all-star. DeRosa has only been a fulltime starting 2B for a couple yrs & is nowhere near the top 20 in mlb. DeRosa would more than likely start at SS over theriot if we get roberts. Soriano at leadoff got us swept in the playoffs. Piniella wants him moved down in the order.

From this morning:

Brian Roberts, the 4th best 2B in the major leagues is not worth a pitcher that has never pitched past the AA minor league level. OK...

Apparently, Roberts just keeps getting better all the time. Perhaps we should wait until July, since at this pace, he'll be the best second baseman in the majors by then.

That comment in the Philly Inquirer just came out of left field and was completely unexpected. Their baseball writers are really good (IMO) but can be alarmist. It was said with such flat confidence.... in an out of town paper.... weird.

except that he has. but that's okay, just ignore the facts that don't support your opinion

Found that blurb from the Philly Inquirer:

Sources say that Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts will be traded to the Cubs as soon as the Orioles decide which pitchers they want in return. . . .

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/15917802.html

so it doesn't actually say it's done...

So does this mean they have actually settled on the other position players (Cedeno, Murton, etc.) to be rumored in this deal?

I should know this after 228 pages, but does Belkast know enough about the guys we are offering that he can tell what a laughable deal is?

It means there's no deal at all. I don't know why people keep pushing this thing further than it really is. It's laughable to think that the Orioles get to "decide which pitchers they want" in any deal, as if the other team has no say. This isn't the produce section at the local supermarket. Christ, these articles are just stupid sometimes.

See, I took that to mean they were given a list of guys to choose from and they would be deciding from that, kind of like what happens with a PTBNL.

But I do think you're right that there's no deal at all right now.

what "facts" would those be? the one where Roberts gets on base 40 points better or the one where Soriano's quad injury that plagued him all of last year is carrying into this year which has alarmed lou piniella to which he stated that if one of the proposed deals gets done that Soriano would move down in the order?

That sentence structure should be worthy of jailtime. Dear Lord, it hurts to read.

He's talking about the fact that Gallagher has pitched above AA.

Do you know how to use the quote feature?

The fact he was referring to (I'm pretty sure), BTW, was that Gallagher has pitched above AA.

no i don't & no offense but posting on message boards is not my fulltime job. sentence structure, including quotes, hard core stats & keeping track of every poster's prior posts to the nth degree are not things I'm real interested in. Again, this is a message board...not a board room. Brian Roberts for Gallagher is highway robbery. The Chicago Cubs want & need to win now....not in 3 yrs. Why we are not willing to give up nearly any combination of two highly touted minor leaguer's (including Gallagher at whatever level he's pitched) is beyond me. Brian Roberts is a strong upgrade at both 2B & at the leadoff spot in the Cubs order...whether Soriano's leg is healthy or not. The stats prove it and common sense proves it as well.

You're right, it's not...but the fact that you're posting presumably means that you want others to be able to understand what it is you're trying to say and what it is you're trying to respond to, both of which haven't always been easy with you, at least in this thread.

Posting on a messege board as a full time job is not a requirement to know that half the stuff you post is utter garbage, factually incorrect and designed to get a rise out of people.

why are you bashing on Smammy Sosa because he always gave it his all and never failed to give 100% in all of his playing time for the Chicago Cubs and for the rest of his career in major league baseball.
