that was certainly not my intent. We'll see how it plays out. It was just interesting getting his comments on some of these matters after all of the speculation in the offseason. Mark me down as rooting for the Roberts/Burnett combo as the daily double. I've also heard from one of my sources that there have been some discussions w/ the A's regarding Rich Harden. He is a risk for obvious reasons, but wow...what a buy low candidate w/ a stretch upside. That would make up for any Prior loss is he finally returns to form.

mark me down for really wanting brian roberts

listening to that piniella interview has really got me all giddy like a school girl for this season to start...

i mean...the players may not be where we want them to be...but...we truly do have a talented baseball team and a dangerous baseball team judging by the comments concerning their embarrassing exit from the playoffs last season...

things will work themselves out

i really think that if soriano's leg is indeed not quite 100%, this BRob trade could be going down soon...that might force hendry's hand to give up something he was reluctant to give up in the first place because if we take soriano out of the leadoff spot...who would bat there instead?

theriot?!?!?

yikes!

Something has to be happening. I think the Cubs have too many pieces they value but nowhere to put them. Murton, Marshall, Cedeno, Patterson and a handful of other guys who could net value in trade.

I'd be on board with getting Roberts and Burnett or Harden, although Harden seems like a stretch considering Oakland really has no reason to move him at this point.

you don't have to believe me that I have a source. It might not be all that good although I'm not seeing anyone else w/ good sources either including the beat writers. this is a message board & I simply passed on a nugget that i heard....fwiw. I never said it was going to happen...only that it was something being discussed/considered. the shot at me regarding sources was uncalled for. I really don't understand all of the agnst on here. Aren't we all cub fans? Aren't we all rooting for the betterment of the team? We all have opinions & that is what a message board is all about. I welcome anyone to provide any info they get as well. It's something to talk about.

After seeing yesterday's three team 11 player Bulls trade go through in like 45 minutes I have no idea why this has to take over 3 months to complete.

My 10 month old said "Dadda daddadadda dad dadddddda daddddda da da da da" That's right! Z's winning a Cy Young Award and the Cubs are going all the way!

It's just what I heard and it is for the betterment of the team!

Seriously, though. Hearing something and hearing something from a "SOURCE" are totally different things.

Exactly..Also the Jason Kidd trade..These trades happen out of nowhere and get done right away..Why do we have to wait so freakin long and hear rumors for like 4 months

You have a very good point, and my post was just a bad attempt at humor and not meant as a shot at you. Sorry . . .

None of these other teams have fans that are made to suffer like Cub fans. :bye:

for those thinking that soriano would still lead off if we get roberts...lou was on the score this morning & said hendry is working on two deals. If one of them goes through...soriano would not be leading off...right from the horses mouth.

Stop lying. Lou never said that. I listened to the interview and all he said was that he's consider possibly moving Soriano down if they made a trade, which is what he's been saying all offseason.

Posted
you are really grasping at straws if you continue to believe they want roberts just for a "minor 2b upgrade". they want him to leadoff. I now hope the trade goes through so you can see for yourself so that this struggle back & forth can finally come to an end & we all cheer for roberts to lead off w/ a walk, roberts to steal, fuko to single him in & then soriano to hit a two run homer & 3-0 cubs. That makes the dempster, marquis starts much more palatable.

wow, every game?

and if Soriano is going to hit a HR, then Roberts shouldn't try to steal. that's an unnecessary risk. just let Soriano homer him in, amirite?

I'd say if Soriano's leg is still bothering him, the Cubs will make a deal for Roberts or someone to fill the "leadoff position". After listening to Lou talk about the Cubs lack of speed I wouldn't doubt that they'd push for this.

But if the shoe is on the other foot, and the lineup on opening day (with the Roberts trade) is Soriano, Roberts, ... Will you cheer for the Soriano lead off homer, Roberts double, Lee RBI single, Aram HR, Koske single, Soto Hr & its 6-0 Cubs in the first?

I :beg: for this to happen!

I can see Lou looking for more speed since he seemed very surprised about the lack of running Soriano did in the off season and how he hasn't gone 100% on his legs yet. Time will tell. I wouldn't mind Roberts in the 1 spot, but that would mean Soriano (IMO) isn't 100% which would really stink.

Apparently Pie or Colvin won't be neccessary to make a Roberts trade happen.

Dan, Rockford, Ill.: What would the Chicago Cubs have to include in the rumored Brian Roberts deal to make Andy MacPhail pull the trigger? Do you think a Roberts trade will happen before the season starts?

Dan Connolly: I think a trade still could happen before the end of March. The Cubs covet Roberts, they want to win this year and he's a perfect leadoff man/gritty competitor for manager Lou Piniella. And, after the Erik Bedard trade, there is no question the Orioles are rebuilding. It just comes down to whether the Orioles like the package offered by the Cubs for their most popular player.

My guess is it is going to take two legitimate pitching prospects and a couple other guys. We've heard a lot about pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielder Matt Murton and shortstop Ronny Cedeno as a package for Roberts. But I think the Orioles view Cedeno and Murton as at least somewhat similar to what they already have in Luis Hernandez and Luke Scott (although Murton's a righty while Scott's a lefty) and so I don't think that package gets it done. I was under the impression that the Orioles wouldn't move Roberts without one of the Cubs' two young outfielders, Felix Pie or Tyler Colvin, included. But I have been told now that's not necessarily the case. An educated guess says that Gallagher and either pitching prospects Donald Veal or Jose Ceda along with a couple lesser players would have to be involved for it to happen. We'll see.
