I'm surprised that the Alex Cintron move hasn't resulted in another 10 pages on this thread yet. I sure hope that it's the precusor to the looooonnnnnnngggg awaited Brian Roberts deal.

A lot of us are taking some precaution in stating how badly we do or don't want Roberts here, depending on what it costs the Cubs in prospects. For the right price, he'd be a nice addition. For the wrong price, I want nothing to do with him.

This is still the "Brian Roberts thread" in name only.

for all of you soriano leading off lovers out there...he reported to camp w/ lingering leg issues despite having all of the offseason to recover. That's all we need is another year of his leg issues to deal w/ at the top of the order. The days of him being a serious & continuous threat on the basepaths are in the past. This puts even more pressure on Hendry to get fresh legs at the top.

Wait....you don't think Soriano should lead off?

Nowhere has it been implied he is still injured. The Cubs just told him not to go full bore and risk injury.

I have a question. What do the Cubs need more, an upgrade in speed at the top of the order, or an upgrade at shortstop?

speed at the top & it's not even close.

A LEADOFF HITTER DOESN'T HAVE TO BE EXCEPTIONALLY FAST. A LEADOFF HITTER DOESN'T HAVE TO STEAL BASES. A LEADOFF HITTER NEEDS TO SCORE RUNS.

Why do you continue to call us "Soriano leading off lovers"? We're "lovers" of getting the best erformance out of our players. It has nothing to do with us liking Soriano as a leadoff hitters. It has to do with us not like Soriano as a middle of the order hitter.

Anyways, his steal totals do nothing to make me change my opinion. He could steal zero bases next year and it wouldn't make me think twice about moving him down in the order. Stolen bases are highly overrated anyways.

Unless they had Carlos Beltran or Brian Roberts (or someone THAT good at it), I would be perfectly fine with the team never attempting steals (barring some crazy extreme case like Maddux pitching with Kendall behind the plate in a one run game in the 9th or something like that). And I wouldn't long for a good basestealer like that if we didn't have one. Nice to have but totally not necessary.

Congratulations... you are the first person I have ever put on ignore.

Stop wagging your finger. It's unfair to say that he will have lingering leg issues when the season starts. The Cubs told him to only work out 75% during the offseason. However, he has all of Spring Training to get himself ready to be fit for the season. Besides, there's no rule that says he has to steal bases. Get over it.

Yeah, I hate when we have a 1-0 lead after one batter...hey, if Sori is still a bit gimpy, all the more reason to hit HRs so he can jog around the bases.

I have a big thing about the ignore thing and how I think it's stupid, but I'm definitely considering it for the first time, too.

I hope everyone ignores him. If there's anything more annoying than his posts it's the 30 posts that follow.

I have never done it anywhere for anybody... nobody before has been this aggressive in pushing their flawed agendas, though.

The only problem is that people will keep responding to him, and I'll be able to see it when they quote his posts... if we could just get everybody to ignore him, that'd be much easier.

I remember a couple others who were as bad, but they usually eventually went off at some point and got banned. I'll give wrigley one thing. He's persistent and seemingly unflappable. Alligator blood.
