Sun Times is reporting a source said that Angelos nixed a 7 for 2 swap. Sounds like the deal is dead.

Until tomorrow. The only way this deal (and this thread) is dead is if Roberts is traded to another team, until then it's alive and well.

or until Roberts is actually dead

I imagine this thread will still be around in 20 years:

My insider sources tell me that the Cubs has nixed a deal that would have sent Brian Roberts to the Cubs for Bhogg's son Ryne, the team's famed young slugger. Cubs GM Mephistopheles is said to have laughed in the Orioles faces when they offered the deal, and was quoted as saying "Are you kidding? Bhogg's son's BRAR and WARP1 is off the charts! We'll never let him go, especially so long as he produces a healthy UEqR."

If that's the case, thanks Pete!

Positives are if there are 2 from Baltimore worth offering 7 players for, the Cubs are really after both Roberts and Bedard. And if there were 7 players involved, one was likely NOT Rich Hill. It would be really nice if this would get done. At this point, there's probably no turning back as far as Hendry is concerned. This may be a situation where if something doesn't work, Hendry may just stick with what he has and look to make a move at the deadline.

Though I'm sure there were some discussions and trade possibilities bandied back and forth, the idea that a Roberts deal was ever really close to being finalized appears to have been nothing more than a figment of OH's imagination.

Guys,

At the question and answer session during the Cubs Convention, Hendry emphatically denied the report in the Sun Times. He made a point of making Andy MacPhail out as being his own boss in Baltimore and not needing Angelo's approval for these deals. If you read the Sun Times report and then read that blogger's posting that was circulating around Cubs.com and other Cubs message boards, I think you will stumble on to Gorden Wittenmeyer's "source" or his "source's" source.

That assessment contradicts what Orioles president Andy MacPhail told me a few hours ago. He insisted that nothing has changed and nothing is dead, and labeled rumors of a proposed 7-for-2 trade between the clubs as “pure fiction.”

It now appears that the Cubs would be willing to part with Rich Hill if they could get Roberts and Bedard in return, but the Orioles haven’t shown a willingness to package their two bargaining chips in the same trade. And at least two people in the organization don’t believe the Cubs have enough to offer in such a blockbuster.

I dont have anything to add but the Orioles can go to hell. Not that i want this trade either way but damn baltimore, its takes a long time to make a decision.

You would think Hendry and MacPhail could work out a deal if Brian Roberts is really what Hendry wants. I'm thinking the Bedard rumors are more "if we can't move him to anyone else...." I think Roberts to the Cubs gets done. It just depends on Bedard. If the Ms give up what the Os want for Bedard, they will make that trade then on to Roberts. If the Ms don't, I think the O's and Cubs would work out something for both players.
