i don't care about losing marshall, veal, or even patterson. and i realize murton probably isn't going to play for the '08 cubs, but i'd rather see him be used as more than one of four guys in a trade to get a 2b (esp. when the cubs already have one).

I think it could get done for marshall, murton, epatt and veal. At least that seems fair to me.

Am I thinking of a different Brian Roberts? That's awfully steep.

Done without a second thought.

I must be thinking of a different Brian Roberts too, because that is one lopsided trade. He's basically Matt Murton playing 2nd.

That is basically a ridiculous statement.

Roberts' career OPS: .760

Murton's career OPS: .820

Roberts just steals more.

Ok is it just me or does anyone who is trying to make Murton sound good only talk about his OPS from last year and try to make other players seem like just average?

I like the idea of getting Roberts but I have got to think that Marshall, Murton, and maybe one other should be enough. He is a very good 2nd basemen but is he really a game changer? Because between Marshall and Murton you have two young players who provide solid production at the minimum salary. That has to be very valuable to a few teams out there. I am at work or else I would do it, but could someone show me his numerical value compared to that of Murton and Marshall? If not that is ok. I am not an expert on Roberts, but is he really going to impact things that much?

Levine says Roberts would bat leadoff (not Soriano).

Cedeno would be the Orioles "shortstop of the future!" Good luck with that.

I'm pretty sure they're talking about the Brian Roberts who stole 50 bases last year and scored 103 runs for a pretty terrible Orioles team.

did you say RUNS?! well, now that you bring that into the equation.

Doesn't that say "Career OPS"?

The latest ESPN 1000 update had Levine saying the latest offer was Cedeno, a pitcher, and an outfielder for Roberts.

My guess Marshall, Murton, and Cedeno....

though it could be Marmol, Murton, Cedeno....or Patterson, Marmol Cedeno.

I sure hope Marmol isn't in the deal.

Marshall, Cedeno, and Murton?

And I think it is a bad trade, but Cedeno and Murton are done for with the Cubs so they might as well get someone for them.

i'd probably argue with you about this, but i have no idea what the hell you're saying.

The more I think about this, the more I'm realizing it's stupid to be trading for Roberts when a tweak in the package gets you Tejada, which upgrades an actual need.

Haha. Levine just called Cedeno the "shortstop of the future" for the Orioles if the trade goes down. He says Cedeno is the only name he's sure of right now.

And now from ESPN blog...

10:59 p.m., from Steve Phillips

• The Cubs have denied that Rich Hill would be included in any Brian Roberts deal.

I would give anything to be in Nashville and mush Steve Phillips for being a moron.

exactly. plus, the cubs could have a huge hole in the OF that they may need to fill through a trade. if they trade the few valuable chips for a minor 2b upgrade, they're going to be hurting both in rf and ss.

K I agree with everything u said, but "2nd best CF'er in the NL" come on isnt that a little steep of a comment. He played like 40 games last year you cant make that statement right now. Even though I know he is a good fielder even made some very bad reads last year.

Not really, those tools are there. His range and arm are as good as anyone in the game. Every new player coming to Wrigley will misplay them.

I think right now, Taveras is the only one better.

Maybe...I wasn't thinking just Wrigley, if just Wrigley you could be right. I still think he needs to make better reads though he over runs balls alot!

If he overruns balls, that's not a bad thing. I'd rather have a CF'er that can overrun balls that most CF'ers can't get.

Levine "guarantees" Cedeno is part of the deal and is not sure of anyone else involved

I am really hoping for Cedeno, Marshall, and EPatt then. I like Murton's value as a capable replacement against injuries too much for such a small improvewment(From Derosa to Roberts)

Can we get Tyler Colvin, Jeff Samardzija, Mitch Atkins, Robert Hernandez, Josh Vitters, Josh Donaldson, Geovany Soto, and Tony Thomas involved in these trade speculations? Seriously, we're getting just about every other Cubs prospect/young player involved...

All im saying is Murton hasnt started a full year yet...yet u guys are saying Roberts isnt much better than him yet hes a multi-year all-star and probably one of the best leadoff hitters in the major leagues.
