According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Twins are close to acquiring Craig Monroe from the Cubs.

The newspaper reports that the deal could become official as soon as Tuesday, with the Cubs said to be getting a player to be named later. Monroe made $4.8 million in 2007 and is set to get a raise in arbitration, which makes him overpriced given his career 749 OPS, which includes a weak .303 on-base percentage. Monroe could see regular at-bats while splitting time with Jason Kubel between left field and designated hitter.

If we get anything for him, this is a good deal. The only way it could turn out bad, is if the PTBNL is Monroe himself. Other than that, I'm glad we're getting anything.

This made me smile, because it is soooo true

This is a weird trade. I guess anything we get for Monroe would be fine by me. They said on the radio that Minnesota's rationale might be that Monroe is really close with Hunter and that might be used as leverage for him to sign for a hometeam discount. Otherwise Monroe becomes a platoon replacement for Hunter. 8-[

It's official Monroe for a PTBNL per wmvp

Aren't we still waiting for the PTBNL for Izturis?

Yes, but by now it could easily have just become cash considerations.

If Hendry managed to turn Craig Monroe who was moments away from a sure non tender into even a warm body it should be considered a steal, more than likely Hendry nets some cash considerations.

Another deal that Hendry made for no reason at all, while giving up a possible decent bullpen arm to get, and now Hendry gets a PTBNL back. Boy, Hendry you sure are a genius.

I wasn't that happy giving up Rapada, mainly cause I wanted him as an extra LOOGY in September, but I don't think he really has a great future.

Trading Monroe was the right thing to do, he's gonna make too much money and has no place on the team. It's trade or it's non-tender.

Right, as I said Rapada could be a decent bullpen arm. My problem was Hendry trading for Monroe in the first place, giving up a possible decent bullpen arm

for somebody who wasnt needed. Now Hendry trades Monrow for a PTBNL, which will more than likely be cash, or a very low class A player. So essentially all Hendry did was give Rapada away for nothing.

Two good moves in two days by Hendry.

This is more of a non-move than anything. Monroe wasn't in the plans anyway, and we're not going to get anything of value back.

I like cash, I think it has alot of upside

I know you are joking, but isn't the cash instead of a PTBNL route a fairly nominal amount of cash. Like in the tens of thousands?

I hear it hits righties well.

If that's true, Hendry screwed the pooch again--we need help against lefties!!!
