According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Twins are close to acquiring Craig Monroe from the Cubs.

The newspaper reports that the deal could become official as soon as Tuesday, with the Cubs said to be getting a player to be named later. Monroe made $4.8 million in 2007 and is set to get a raise in arbitration, which makes him overpriced given his career 749 OPS, which includes a weak .303 on-base percentage. Monroe could see regular at-bats while splitting time with Jason Kubel between left field and designated hitter.

If we get anything for him, this is a good deal. The only way it could turn out bad, is if the PTBNL is Monroe himself. Other than that, I'm glad we're getting anything.

I'm kind of shocked someone is willing to trade for him when the Cubs were going to release him anyway. How do the Twins justify his 5 million dollar salary with their payroll? Maybe they are going to non-tender him and then re-sign him to a lower deal.

Wonder how much we're paying.

Why would the Cubs pay any part of it? They didn't have to pay Monroe in the first place if they didn't want to.

Cause Hendry is just that damn nice/dumb?

If we are actually getting a player of value back. But who would trade a crappy overpriced player for players of value?...well besides Hendry.

I hope we get another crappy utility infielder. Can never have enough of those.

We need a reliever who can't throw strikes!

I just hope we can get a guy who can catch the ball.

2 words: Nick Punto.

That's just piling on SSR. This board would be so much fun if this were true!

Punto would be perfect.

Clearly, we need a new 1b who fits the mold. Joey Votto would get it done.

Sound out that line up and tell me how Erstad fits in with that team? If his nickname is the Spearmint Rhino, he's in. Marco Scutaro would get the job done.

Hate to rain on your parade, but if we trade Monroe for Punto, they can't both be in our lineup.

Well hopefully the trade will be Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee for Nick Punto and Justin Morneau.
