Nick Punto at 3rd base is shaping up nicely. Now we have to acquire Adam Kennedy. We must have gritty, blue-collared, hard-nose, play-the-game-the-right-way, be able to bunt and handle a bat, full-throttle, get your uniform dirty, smiling white guys instead of these overpaid divas.

I like Nick Punto and Adam Kennedy not because they're good at baseball, but they remind me of my grandfather who was a Pennsylvania coal miner.

Let me see if I have this straight. Jim Hendry gave away Clay Rapada, Jerry Blevins, Rocky Cherry, Scott Moore, Jake Renshaw, Michael Barrett, Jacques Jones AND about $6MM cash. In exchange, the Cubs today have Omar Infante, low-A minor leaguer Kyler Burke, and a future PTBNL. Do I have that about right?

How this joker keeps his job is beyond me.

Gee, with the hot stove trades about to begin, do ya think you might have got some actual value out of a submariner lefty with 17 AAA saves in Rapada? A AA-lefty with a sub-2.00 ERA in Blevins? How about Renshaw, a kid that mowed them down in A ball? These are EXACTLY the kind of players you use to sweeten the pot in trade deals, but Hendry is so dumb and blind he literally doesn't seem capable of thinking 10 minutes ahead.

Maybe the Tribune should dock his pay to get that $6MM back.

That'd be one hell of a docking considering he probably makes about 1M/year max.

Completely agree, and was basically what my point was last page.

And then even if Fontenot doesn't play we can replace him with . . .De-Ro! But of course we'd absolutely have to resign Blanco.
Blanco's already under contract for 2008. Giving him a 2-year contract was one of Hendry's genius moves a year ago.

He could be the first baseman for this team, since Soto is catcher.

You're forgetting we also got Trachsel's big win in Houston which let us use Zambrano in the first game against the Cards.
