i thought we had already established earlier this year that every conference sucks and no conferences play tough OOC schedules

I'm just wanting help Cuse get to the bottom of this conspiracy.

That picture looks like someone stuck a shotgun in Moses' off hand.

er, john brown.

Yeah, I know who it's supposed to be, but the rest of the look(beard, two tablets in the other hand that are supposed to be a book), gave me a different initial impression.

Hopefully you guys who pay closer attention to college football than I do can answer this for me. Next weekend's Mizzou-kU game is confirmed to be on ABC. What isn't known (and won't be known until this Sunday) is whether the game will be at 2:30 or at 7. Now I'm assuming that they're holding off the decision to see if there will be a better game to telecast during primetime. So with that said, if I'd strongly prefer the game to be at 2:30, what do I need to happen in college football this Saturday?

Honestly, I have a feeling it'll be at 7 unless Mizzou loses to KSU this week and it locks up the North for KU. I have mixed feelings about this, because the thought of it being under the lights, on national tv, for the Big 12 North title is amazing to me and I think the atmosphere would be insane. On the other hand, I'd like to get home before 2 am.

Big win for Ball State over Toledo. It was tied 20-20 at halftime but BSU won 41-20 after totally dominating the second half. Davis looks to me like a future Heisman Trophy candidate. The Cardinals are now bowl eligible, although I still think they need to beat Northern Illinois and finish 7-5 to actually get a bid.

They need to beat NIU and have Bowling Green either lose another game (@Buffalo or vs Toledo) or win the East (which would ensure BSU's 7-5 as the 3rd best record in the league). Basically for Ball State not to get in, BG and Miami would have to win out, putting Miami at 7-6 after CMU destroys them in the MAC title game, and BG at 8-4, which would leave BSU on the outside looking in. It's possible but I'd be surprised.

And Nate Davis definitely has Colt Brennan potential. 25 TD to 6 INT this year, and half of those picks were tipped balls, and he's a sophomore. The scary thing is that his numbers could be so much better than they are, as he has just barely overshot receivers on deep balls probably 7 or 8 times this season.

Apparently the Big Ten had an officiating crew do the Ohio State/Illinois game despite a planned suspension of the crew following their work on the Purdue/Penn State game: Link

i want to throw another pitch out there for a playoff. It looks very likely that we'll have a pair of one-loss teams in the BCS Championship game, but the teams there won't be based on who they lost to, but when they lost. that's crap. i love me some college football, but so much about is totally broken

ESPN.com is currently projecting four MAC teams in bowl games (Miami, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, and Ball State). They're projecting a fourth team because they don't think there will be enough bowl eligible teams from the PAC 10 to fill all their tie-ins, so another MAC team might fill the unfilled PAC 10 spot. That has happened before; in 2004 there were five MAC teams playing in bowl games.

Q - How the heck can college football increase the number of games in a season, keep the same bowl eligibility requirements (six wins), and the Pac-10 still not manage to produce enough teams to fill its bowls? --Jeff G., Ellicott City, Md.

A - Two words, my friend: Karl Dorrell. - Stewart Mandel, SI

that brings up a good point. if more teams are playing 12 game schedules, they should increase the # of wins for bowl eligibility to 7 and reduce the # of bowls. Or, if there is a disparity with 11 and 12 game schedules, the requirement should be "a winning record"

I don't know if that's a hard and fast rule, but I think it's already generally observed. Last year KU was 6-6, and everybody knew there was almost no chance they'd go to a bowl because, while eligible, there were too many 7-5 teams out there.

Bowls must select teams with winning records before they can select a 6-6 team. I'm pretty sure that it includes 6-5 teams. If a conference doesn't have enough bowl-eligible teams for their tie-ins, then a bowl must select a team outside of the conference with a winning record before they can select a team outside of the conference with a 6-6 record.

I agree the whole "timing of the loss" factor is just complete B.S. The games need to count for exactly the same no matter when they are played. If they want to use a couple tomato cans as their openers, then that's their choice. Either those games count for the same, or they should designate them as scrimmages or preseason games and play them outside the normal schedule.

Saying they don't count the same because the teams weren't ready is B.S.

Saying they don't count the same because they were eariler is B.S.

Bottom line, Michigan had climbed all the way back to 12 by the time they lost to Wisconsin. No way in hell would they have been that high if they lost to App State and Oregon in back-to-back weeks later in the year. There's just simply no damn way.

This system is just hopelessly broken. It's no wonder you see signs like NoBCS.net all over the place every week. Nobody likes this. To hell with the money makers, they need to live up to their responsibilities and provide a framework that actually works first. Worry about your profits after.
