Seriously? Gas Lamp Ball? What an awful name.

Thank goodness NSBB isn't called Wrigley Ball.

With all due respect to Ichiro, any concerns about the quality of Japanese baseball and how much vailidity can be given to their stats? Afterall, Tuffy Rhodes has a .379 OBP and 402 home runs in eleven years after a pretty mediocre (at best) stint in MLB.

In 2001 he had one of the greatest seasons ever in Japanese Baseball. His 55 home runs tied the single season home run record, while driving in more than 130 runs.

Do they test for steroids in Japan?

Chicago (and the majority of other cities, for that matter) is absolute crap compared to San Diego. Fukudome knows it, too.

Our last big fire was in 1871.

Oooo...too soon?

Just thinking out loud, if the cubs got a bat such as rolen, inge, tejada to play 3rd would anyone consider looking to unload ramirez? would the dodgers do ramirez for either and a top pitching prospect? would ramirez accept a trade to the Angels or Dodgers? I am in no way a Ramirez basher in fact he is prob my fave cub however 3rd seems a place where we could replace some of his production and get good value in return, his contract looks very reasonable in the current market. tin hat on........!!

Fukudome would be awesome. It's great to hear Sandy say they made him a big offer...but the morons running the Cubs seem to be clueless about market value. If they really are offering him upwards of $15 mil...we are ****.

Speaking of not understanding what market value means.

because the cubs need offense.

...He did say swing a deal for Hamilton instead. I'll give him that much. And that just might be a better option than throwing all this money at a 31 year old Japanese player.

and throwing a bunch of money at a 31 year old japanese player might be a better idea than throwing the farm at an oft-injured former drug addict and then signing carlos silva.

No, no, and no. I'd hate to have either of the first two, and the third worries me.

It might. I didn't say definitively that either idea was better than the other.

He's suposedly making his descision today too right? It just feels like we know he's going to SD already..Just our luck being Cubs fans...Go to hell San Diego

There's conflicting reports about when he's going to make his decision. I'm kind of expecting it to be in weeks, not days.

According to the 2005 American Community Survey, Chicago has 128,650 people of Asian Decent. I cannot find a breakdown of Asian Ethnicities in Chicago, but I would imagine a large large majority of those 128k are Chinese, Korean and Filipino. Census 2000 shows that there are approximately 7,411 Japanese Americans living in Chicago, and 17,398 in Cook County.

San Diego on the other hand has 190,893 people of Asian Decent in its city. According to a 2005 poll, San Diego COUNTY (population of about 2.9 million, roughly the size of Chicago give or take 150,000) has around 20,534 Japanese Americans living in their county. I guess thats a pretty sizable difference, as a much smaller metro (2.9 mil vs. about 9 million) has 3,000 more Japanese people in it.

But of course comparing the 2 metros doesn't take into account that LA is about 1.5-2 hours north of SD and has a pretty big Japanese population.

San Diego has one thing going for it--nice weather. Other than that, it's a glorified mall.

Don't knock the beaches.

I want Fukudome on the team, but it depends on the price. However, hearing Santo try to say his name in a figurative sense would be priceless. Let's see how many times a mistake is made...

Having lived there for 7 years, I concur - it's all frosting and no cake. I've never met a shallower, more selfish and more mentally and spiritually unambitious group of troglodytes in my life.

California beaches suck. Sorry.
