and that is why picking up bradley would have been a stupid idea

That'd only make him the best hitter on our team this year. Yeah, it's a real good thing we didn't pick him up. He wouldn't have been better than the crap we've had from CF or RF a good chunk of this season.

Lee and Aramis both have him beat in batting. Lee has the same on base percentage. Bradley numbers are lower then this because his Oakland numbers. He often hurt and is a jerk.

EqA:

DLee - .297

Aramis - .300

Bradley - .286 with OAK, .334 with SD (where he has approx 2/3 of his PT)

This season, Bradley has been a better hitter, even including his Oakland numbers (which are nothing to scoff at). Yeah, he's been injured a good chunk of the season, but putting him in CF when Jacque was performing so badly would have been worth quite a few wins, or in right when Floyd had forgotten how to hit for power.

He may be an asshat, but he's a very valuable one.

Could you imagine what would happen if Bradley made an error during one of Z's starts that ended up letting a few runs score?

Geez, just give the guy a break. The more you read into this story, it becomes apparent that Bradley did nothing wrong. For some reason, he was targeted by this umpiring crew. Hey, if the truth comes out and this crew gets suspended for the postseason, that's fine by me. I never want to see Froemming at Wrigley Field ever again.

I'm not just saying that in regards to this case where it appears it wasn't really Bradley's fault (though I'm sure he had a bit to do with it escalating but who knows). But fact is the guy does have a temper which is why I posed the question. I, too, would love to hear the truth about this situation.

I tell you what Nobull, Rob almost had me convinced that Bradley was a good player with those crazy stats. Then your arguements were so compelling, who in their right mind would even consider that Bradley was even close to being as good as Lee and Ramirez.

San Diego Union Tribune[/url]"]

Then, shortly after Bradley arrived at first base via a single, he and Winters were exchanging barbs that, according to Padres first-base coach Bobby Meacham, were inflammatory on the umpire's part.

Bradley said Winters called him “a (expletive) piece of (expletive).”

Said Meacham: “In my 26 years of baseball, that was the most disconcerting conversation I have heard from an umpire to a player. The way Winters responded was bizarre. It was almost like he wanted to agitate the situation.

“I was appalled. That's why the game stopped.”

Meacham moved toward the foul line and turned toward Winters from the distance of about 10 feet.

“I couldn't believe what I was hearing,” said Meacham. “Milton did not use foul language. The umpire, absolutely. He called Milton a name (apparently after Bradley had pointed in the direction of a fan who was booing Winters). That's when I stepped on the field and said, 'You cannot do that.'

“Even before that, I was saying this is wrong, this is ridiculous. The name that Winters called Milton, had he said it to me, I would have rushed him. No one is going to take that.”

Asked whether what Winters said had racial overtones, Meacham, who, like Bradley, is black, replied, “It smacked of that tone.”

After the game, Froemming did not make Winters available to the media.

Meacham said when Winters told the other members of the crew what had happened, “he lied.”

“Milton held his cool until something was said by Winters that would have had me sprinting at the umpires,” said Meacham. “Me, Milton and Todd Helton (the Rockies' first baseman) are the only three people who know what was said.”

Helton took the baseball equivalent of the Fifth Amendment, saying, “It was very interesting.”

Froemming obviously told his umpiring crew to get Padre players suspended for the Brewer series.

Come on, isn't it obvious? The long arm of Froemming strikes again.

Todd Helton is going to play a big part in how this plays out. Hes the only unbias person who knows exactly what was said.

I agree. Helton was just standing there and I'd love to know what he was really thinking when this was going on. He's in the playoff hunt right now so it would help his team if Bradley is suspended. This could turn out to be a very interesting situation.

A good ump is never noticed and this guy, if this is true, should be severely punished imo. An ump baiting a player is just ridicules.

Wait, I just noticed that. Did you say Helton is "unbiased," Keener?

Au contraire' my good buddy.

It is but how do you get caught up in all of this in a pennant race? Just ignore the situation or deal with it some other way.

Oh yeah, I agree. But imo, this is like a fan running around on the field, it should not happen. An ump has to let shut his mouth. Call Bradley on it when he threw the bat and don't yap at him later. A whole AB later. Bradley has a temper and there's no doubt about that. But, hearing something like this from an ump is just mind boggling to me.

Bradley said he didn't toss his bat, have they any video proving him to be right?

ESPN reporting Bradley has torn ACL.

I'll bet that sumbitch Winters did it

That's insane. If the ump did what Meacham and Bradley claim, he should be banned.

And something that happens thousands of miles away winds up hurting the Cubs.

Wonderful. That's just so typical.

I wouldn't call it hurting the Cubs. I would call the help to the Brewers in the season and the hurting of the Padres in the playoffs about equal as far as the Cubs are concerned.

Gotta get there first, man-dinga  But I do see your point.
