The way the Cubs are playing, it doesnt look like it will matter, but Lou announced today that if the one game playoff vs. The Brewers happens, Jason Marquis will take the mound.

I for one dont think its such a bad idea. The Brewers hammer lefties, so that counts out Lilly and Hill. Zambrano has proven hes not a big game pitcher, so this leaves Jason.

I guess the bottom line is if it happens, and we win, Lou will be hailed as a genious. If we loose, he will be marked for death. If it doesnt hapen, it wont matter.

They are 7-3 in their last ten, you're right. If they continue to play this way it won't matter.

Also, Marquis simply lines up the best (assuming pitching your best the rest of the way.

Absolutely a good move. Marquis is easily the best of the 3 righthanders in the rotation in the last few weeks.

no big deal. If he is pitching well, then its great if not we would be going all out with anyone and everyone in the pen. He would have no leash that day.

It's absolutely a good thing he's starting. For that game, my order of preference is Marquis, Lilly, and then a tie between Z and Hill for third.

Hasn't he handled the Brewers this year?

2 GS, 1-0, 12.1 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, 1.46 ERA, 1.22 WHIP.

So, yeah, just a little bit.

this sucks.

You were very critical about Marquis not too long ago and quite confident he would end up with an ERA in the 5.00 range.

Are you attributing his season to luck? Just curious if your thoughts on him have changed at all.

I'd definitely feel confident sending him to the mound for that game.

As long as I'm not in the building.

Hopefully the Cubs have a 4 game lead going into the last series and they can rest Lilly and Z.

But, Marquis should be alright for that game. Who will Milwaukee be starting in that one?

I have no problem with it at all. As long as we wouldn't have to face Gallardo, I would feel very confident in our chances to win.

That said, I'd much rather not have to deal with a 1 game playoff
