I picked up a copy of the "Red Eye" today on my way back from class (mainly because it's free) and in the "Eye Contact" section there is an article with the title "Cuban Ready To Dance."

Here are some excerpts:

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is scheduled to arrive in town Monday and plans to attend Monday's Cubs game

Don't hold your breath: He's not going to the game as the team's new owner just yet. Cuban told me in an e-mail that he "can't and won't" say anything about buying the Cubs

then it goes on to talk about him apparently being on the next season of dancing with the stars....Lame. But I found this amusing:

"I will be a lean, mean dancing machine out there!" he said. Cuban admitted it had been difficult--and different than "shaking it" at a bar or a wedding. However, the Maverick billionaire said the ballroom setting won't stop him from busting out some less-than-formal moves. Cuban said he has put his own stamp on the routines, with moves such as "the lawn mower," "the butter churn," and "the sprinkler."

Hahaha

Might he be singing the Stretch tonight?g

That could be very well it.

Nope...from Len and Bob's blog:

7th Inning Singers For Final Homestand

Monday: Ron Santo

Tuesday: Ryne Sandberg

Wednesday: Billy Williams

Friday: Dutchie Caray introduces Harry on 10th anniversary of his last stretch

Saturday: Winner of the Ultimate 7th Inning Stretch Competition

Sunday: Cubs Grounds Crew

Of course they could easily replace Ron if Mark wanted to do it. Ron's sang a few times this summer.

That should be a cool one on Friday.

Wholeheartedly agreed. I still remember that WC playoff game in 1998 when they played the recording of Harry. It was the most eerie and yet touching stretch I've ever heard.

Cuban ought to be thrilled with the crap fest he saw tonight.

I'd venture to guess that he wasn't there to look at the on-field product. He can watch TV and see that.

Assuming he stayed until the end of the game, it can't hurt for him to have been there and felt the electricity in the park.

Absolutely. I hope he did.

From the Reds in the 9th?

Touche. This is one of those times I'm very glad to have been so wrong.

Gotta love Cuban sitting in the bleachers.

''What a [bleeping] game,'' Cuban e-mailed from somewhere in Wrigleyville after the 7-6 classic, which kept the Cubs a game ahead of Milwaukee in what has become a hot, little race in a lukewarm division.

For the record, Cuban didn't storm the field to confront an umpire or lean into the dugout to advise Lou Piniella. Nor did he race out and jump into the moving pile of Cubs at second base after Mark DeRosa's game-winning hit, which followed a leadoff walk to Ryan Theriot, a single by Derrek Lee and a slicing triple to the wall by Aramis Ramirez that eluded the diving lunge of Cincinnati center fielder Norris Hopper. But I'm sure he wanted to. And we can assume he was the only billionaire/prospective owner partying among the masses, enjoying a meaningful autumn at Wrigley.

''Its a blast,'' Cuban e-mailed in the first inning, much too busy for apostrophes.

And where was he sitting? Please don't say a corporate suite.

''Right-field bleachers,'' he e-mailed in the fourth, after Cliff Floyd and DeRosa hit back-to-back homers to give the Cubs a 3-1 lead.

Were the fans mobbing him, urging him to buy the Cubs and save them from the Tribune Co. clones threatening to buy them?

''Just having fun,'' he e-mailed in the fifth, after the Reds scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead off the maddening Rich Hill.

I looked through the binoculars and couldn't find him. I asked an usher about his whereabouts, only to get a dumbfounded look. So I shot another e-mail: Which is more likely to happen, him winning ''Dancing With The Stars'' or buying the Cubs?

''Me hitting a home run,'' he responded in the sixth, after Hopper leaped and smacked against the ivy to make a sensational catch on a Ramirez blast.

Even better in that same article was an email from Cuban to Mariotti:

''U spying on me?'' he wrote in the eighth, just before the great rally.

I really hope Cuban buys the Cubs (not only because he'd potentially be a great owner) so that he can unleash on Mariotti the first time he writes an un-complimentary column.

i always kinda wanted cuban to be the owner, but after seeing that pic and reading the article, i definitely want him to be the owner now.
