funny how guys like rich hill and sean marshall always have to worry about being on a short leash, yet we never hear the same thing about cliff floyd, jason kendall or jason marquis. Must be nice to be a proven veteran.

I like Derrek Lee.

He hits home runs for the Cubs.

(This was stolen from BTF game threads, but those have really petered out, and I think it's acceptable for me to use it here? Thoughts?)

WOW...it will be nice to get him hot!!!

It already IS nice. I just hope that we can put at least 3 or 4 other competent batters around him in the lineup. At least the blind squirrel Floyd managed to find a nut in the first and drive Lee in.

The thing is, those guys didn't really have to worry too much earlier in the year, and things went well. Then as the race tightened and the calender turned, Hendry, Lou and Larry start talking about that short leash and the kids have a couple bad games. Hill pitches poorly, and Lou says as much, Trax pitches poorly, and Lou talks about good stuff just missing location. Soto hits and fields, Kendall makes outs left and right and can't throw anybody out, and he's the stable presence they need. Some excuse it because everybody else in the game acts the same way, but that's no excuse for poor decision making.
