And Rick Ankiel homers.

Is this coming as a surprise to anyone? That freaking team could sign Neifi Perez and Jose Macias and drag 100 OPS+ seasons out of both of them, complete with gold gloves.

No they couldn't, and Ankiel isn't that big of surprise because we've known all along he could hit.

Is it wrong that I am less concerned about the Cards than the Brewers because the Cubs can still directly and significantly affect the Cards' postseason plans?

Not at all.

I really think that part of that is that they expect to win and the positive mental framing that goes with it.

I highly doubt that.

He's now hitting .342 with 8 HR's and 25 RBI's in 24 games this year. He had a 1.061 OPS this year coming into today's game and that just went up.

Unbelievable

I would really like to see that guy get tested.

Why? They don't test for HGH s it's pretty much worthless.

Fair enough, but that guy has a completely new body now.

What Ankiel is doing is acutally a big surprise.

So you really think the drain of playing on a crappy team helps? Have you ever went from a crappy team to a good one?

How about another four-run eighth inning, guys?

Jones, Kendall, Fontenot due up

don't count on it.

Watching Fontenot hit makes me wish Patterson could have shown up on time.

I know we're moving completely off topic here, but I think the call for testing against HGH is a little strong.

HGH isn't really like steroids, and in a lot of cases can do more harm than good.

I don't think anyone expected he'd have a 1.100 OPS at this point.

I would've expected the slugging to be reasonably high, but he can't sustain the OBP.

To be fair to Ankiel, Mike Fontenot had a 1.101 OPS in June when he came up. Hopefully Ankiel pulls a Fontenot and has a .480 OPS in his second month like Fontenot did in July.
