I guess you could say Alex Gordon is pretty overrated.

He's a rookie.

So is Ryan Braun, Hunter Pence, Dustin Pedrioa, Troy Tuluotski and you see them playing well.

Do you know what Pedroia's OPS was in 2006? .561 in 98 PA's

Do you know what his OPS was in April this year? .544 in 65 PA's

Just because Gordon started slow while other rookies started fast doesn't mean he's overrated. Also, Gordon was horrible in April and May but put up OPS's of .883 in June and .810 in August (he had a .677 OPS in July which was still better than April and May).

I suspect Ozzie is underrated on NSBB.

Ozzie was a better hitter and the greatest defensive SS of all-time while Vizquel's gold gloves are a joke. Vizquel played in an era when offense was expected from a SS (ARod, Garciaparra, Jeter) while Ozzie didn't. I think you'll be surprised how much support Vizquel's HOF candidacy receives.

How are Vizquel's Gold Gloves a joke?

I'll be the one to shoot the fish in the barrel: Jeter.

Another one, Torii Hunter.

Jeter's WARP numbers have been impressive though, yeah? I remember FJM citing them as 2nd or 3rd best in the AL the year Hafner should have won the MVP

Most of his career he's been a above average defender but not great. Check out his fielding rate. I can't believe he beat out Adam Everett last year.

Would love to hear your reasons why.

Overrated compared to the amount of attention he attracts from media types?

His career numbers are very, very good.

I understand being sick of the guy because of the attention he gets, but there is no denying he is a very good player.

You can be a very good player and overrated.

But the way he's perceived, he's one of the greatest of all time. The overrated gap between his actual production and hype has to be near the biggest in the last 25 years.

Pierre would probably belong, but I'm not sure about Hunter. Soriano perhaps, but there may be more deserving players.

Well yeah, in the last couple years he's declined, but I don't think that long streak he had most of the 90's is illegitimate.

As an aside, BP's fielding metrics are terrible.

I understand that, but if that is "overrated", I'd take 9 of them please.

His defense is vastly overrated though, as he ranges anywhere from below average to terrible in the field.

Helluva hitter though.

I'll throw my hat in the ring and say: Ichiro, by far.

Actually, Ichiro's VORP has usually been close to top tier, IIRC.

Curt Schilling is pretty overrated. If he didn't force all of his opinions on everyone, he'd be a poor man's Jack Morris.

Juan Pierre

Soriano

Jim Edmond's defense

Kerry Wood

Hunters career stats are equal to Jacque Jones. Hunter is going to make a hell of alot more money this off season than Jones ever will, and all because he can climb a wall and make a catch. Overrated indeed.

juan I Dropped The Soap! pierre

You can't be overrated if everyone already agrees that you are overrrated.

Don't tell Ned Colletti. Or Jim Hendry.

I was going to add that 28 GM's would even agree ;-). Luckily Hendry learned from the 1 year mistake.
