The Cardinals will be a threat if they continue to get excellent pitching performances from most or all of Adam Wainwright, Braden Looper, Kip Wells, and Joel Piniero. I'll leave it up to the individual to decide how likely that is.

if that happens, go ahead and enshrine duncan at the end of the year.

im damn near ready to do it already

We probably should. It's absolutely ridiculous that the Cardinals are even sniffing .500, let alone a division lead, with the patchwork rotation they've had all year long.

Wainwright is a legitimate No. 2 starter, but everyone else in the rotation is not good and hasn't been for a while.

Jayson stark said this morning that the cubs were the more talented of the two (stated the absurd run differential between the two), however he ended the segment with, "but you have to remember one important thing.....THEY ARE THE CUBS..." and chuckled to himself. I myself rolled around on the floor laughing so hard I vomited.

It's hard hitting analysis like that that shows why ESPN is #1.

I liked Jayson Stark more when he had the 70s porn star perm and mustache.

But it's true though. Cardinals have always been known as overachievers and winners. They are like the National League's version of the Yankees. The Cubs, meanwhile, the word underachiever defines them. They have always been losers. I don't know why fans get so bent out of shape for it. Of course, they're not going to respect the Cubs. What have the Cubs done the past 100 years that warrents respect? And I don't mind the media attention to the other teams, it makes it all the more better if the Cubs win it all this year.

I truly enjoyed the 70's. Cardinals were 13 games under .500 for the decade, with no playoff appearances.

I had an argument with Stark in my head after that statement.

Read up on your baseball history. And if you're asking me what the Cubs being the dominant NL team for the first 50 years has to do with anything, I might ask you the same question regarding the Cardinals of the last 50 years.

what I don't understand is the Reds love. I've heard several sources and even people here at work talking about how the Reds are back in the race.

Sure, they've played well recently, but seriously. I've heard, "anybody can win this division" and "don't count out the Reds, they've got a lot of games coming up in the central"

They're 12 games under .500. 8 games out. I'm sorry, but if you guys don't mind. I'm gonna count the Reds out.

I said the same thing a couple days ago. The Reds don't have a chance.

Hopefully by the time we get them they will have realized it.

Just reported by St. Louis P-D main sports writer Bernie M:

Rolen out for season. Shoulder too messed up.

He is not out for the season yet, they are just considering it. They are gonna have some test done first.
