Considering I'm at work today and have a faculty meeting this afternoon, I'm glad this is a night game.

As are the other 80% of us that have to work.

And I'm pretty happy since my Nights/Weekends package nets me all 3 games of this series (and the only Thursday night home game of the year I believe).

I on the other hand, am anxious as hell and can't get any work done!

Kinda like a playoff series. Thats what it feels like to me.

Right now would be a great time to start hitting some home runs. It would be great to flex some muscle a little bit against this team that relies on it. Beat them at thier own game I guess. We might need to just to stay in these games if the wind is blowing out. Here's to the bats coming out hot!

A 3-game series at Wrigley with all night games. Has that ever happened?

Either way, it will just add to the playoff atmosphere. I wish ESPN would show Wednesday night's game. But there's no chance since its the Yankees and Red Sox.

btw, whatever happened to ESPN's blackout secondary/regional games? Tomorrow night would be the perfect spot for that.

Let me go check real quick, but I could have swore that cubs.com schedule lists Thursday's game as being simulcast on ESPN.

In this division, a 4.5-game lead with 5 weeks to go is hardly kicking someone to the curb. With the way these teams play, a single good week from either one would be plenty to regain ground, especially considering that the Cubs can't seem to beat Houston or Cincy, against whom 12 games still remain. Also, the fact that no one in this division (who is currently considered "in the picture") seems to be able to put a good week together makes a sweep in either direction highly unlikely in the first place.

The Brewers have already shown what they do to lefties, and to Rich Hill in particular. If that trend changes for some reason, and if Soriano comes storming out of the gate, then there's an outside chance of a sweep. OTOH, I didn't watch any of the Mil-SF series, but I was there for the whole Cubs series and was left highly unimpressed with SF, so their sweep of Milwaukee is encourgaing. (Though it would be much more so if the Giants didn't also dominate the Cubs 26 of 28 innings.)

If Milwaukee really stunk that badly, then I guess there's a chance the Cubs wouldn't have to do much to take 2 of 3, but I have a feeling that either both teams will play like a steaming pile of it, or they will both come out and play more solidly than either has in the last 6 weeks. Either way, it'll be too hard-fought for a sweep.

Any word on whether it will be Murton or Pie that is send down for Soriano's return?

Why not Piggy? He seems like the guy that is least likely to be needed during the playoffs. Sending him down for a couple days wouldn't put that much of a strain on the staff considering the off day yesterday.

If its between Murton and Pie, I got to guess Murton. With Monroe on the team, and Lou's apparent dislike of Murton, he seems like the easy choice.

I predict we lose 2 out of 3. Soriano will do nothing significant. The offense will struggle to put more than 2 runs on the board in every game. Hill implodes and get yanked by the 4th, Lilly gives up 4 runs in 5 innings. We'll be out of contention by the 2nd week of September. The only stories bigger than our horrific collapse will be the feel-good story of the Cards surging to the playoffs in the name of Josh Hancock. It will be discovered that Pujols is injecting Pit Bulls in his dog fighting ring with PED's. He will be applauded for his contributions to the scientific community. All PetSmarts in Missouri will be renamed PujSmarts in his honor.

I don't recall it ever happening.

Probably will be trash on the field, fans running onto the field, some hat stealing, and maybe a meteor will land in left field.

And that is just the first game.

Honestly, I'm very worried about this series. I'm usually ridiculously optimistic, but I just am uneasy about us sending 2 lefties against that lineup. At least one will get rocked.

I really, REALLY hope I'm wrong.

Brewers radio hosts called this series the "series of the year" for the Crew.

Screw the year, it's almost inarguably the biggest series of the decade for Milwaukee.

BTW, how the hell are we in first?
