Wow.

A very strange feeling occurred to me when we were down 3-0...that we were going to come back.

I don't know what it is about this team - they're worse than the 2004 team that I rarely had confidence in, they're much worse than the 2003 team that I did have confidence in - but something about them makes me think we're going to win these games.

<3 JJ. If he could only see how much he is liked by most of us fans, and to some extent was defended in the 1st half, maybe he wouldn't hate us all so much. Regardless, <3 JJ.

And Rich Hill is the balls.

Reading back through the thread from the point I left, it's very annoying. I can't wait til I get to the Jones double with 4 pages of HILARIOUS comments before it talking about Jones K-ing weakly and how pathetic this team is.

Oh, and the hilarious follow ups about how it doesn't matter the bullpen will blow it anyways, and then of course calling Dempster a dumpster. That'll be great.

Game threads are emotional journeys that aren't suppose to make sense.

This was worse than normal. If I wasn't a moderator who knew stuff would come up in the thread, I'd have bailed.

Fair enough. I guess I missed most of the really annoying drama.

You didn't miss anything but cubs.com esque ridiculosity (yes I made up that term) and a total lack of any semblence of perspective.

But I guess that's what game threads are. I've seen some crazy stuff posted, but the "game over's" in the third inning take the cake.

I think we were supposed to score 5 runs over 3 games according to someone so I guess we should just go home for the last two.

Oh and Rich Hill and his team leading ERA+ suck. Stupid pitcher can't bunt.

is it just me or does every single picture of one pitch rich look the same?

Possibly due to him only having one pitch?

About midway through the Gene Wojciechowski article on ESPN.com it lists some of the scores from today's key NL Central games including "Milwaukee 5, Chicago 3".

EDIT: And then on Phil Rogers' article on ESPN.com he says the Cubs will play 5 games in 4 days. Should be interesting since the Cubs play at Houston on Thursday, September 13 and at home against Cincinnati on Monday, September 17.

Idiots. Both them and the people who proofed their columns.

Then don't read back through the threads...

Seriously, why are people surprised by the emotion people show on game threads? Cubs fans in general are in emotional flux and if you can't understand why then you aren't a Cubs fan...

No need to toss out accusations against someone who has proven his 'Cubs fandom' over the past several years.

As it says on the top of the page, there are still standards that apply to game threads. If people can't control what spews out of their keyboards during game threads, they'll have to find someplace else to post. Some people have gone to AIM chats, you can check the social forum for details.

Yes I agree. And just because a person can curb their emotion and not insult our players doesn't make them any less of a fan. To say otherwise is childish.

No one says otherwise but this isn't like we're at the game and you've got a few Old Styles in you and its tougher to control what you're saying. You're typing things out - not blurting it out - and then you have to click the Submit button. Think about what you're typing and realize the board rules still apply, there's a chance to change it to something acceptable before you click on Submit. There's no need to bait others just because you have a differen opinion and are emotionally charged because of the game. There certainly is no need to type out a swear word.

For the record I'm not trying to instill any sort of censorship in the game threads. I'm a game thread whore, and before flashchats for the games died out after a fun 3 weeks I was a whore for those too.

But yesterday was just absurd. Everyone was falling all over each other to be the first one to call the game over and say how pathetic the team was. It was the 3rd flippin inning!!

I'm far from a pollyanna, but I just don't see the point in predicting doom and gloom for every single player for every single pitch.

The only thing worse than an "everything is great, and if you don't think so then you're not really supporting the team" Cub fan is an "everything sucks, and if you don't join in on saying that your favorite team and everything about it sucks then you're just a stupid wannabe and haven't been through the wars of Cubdom that I have." Cub fan.

This post is a genius.

I read through the GT after the game and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I consider myself (and others consider me) a very pessimistic sports fan but I never thought the Cubs were screwed last night. Rich pitched great for the most part. I hope he can keep it up.

I make it a point never to read through old game threads. If I'm not posting in them, you can bet I didn't read it.

If I'm watching the game in my office and have the computer there, I'll make posts and keep up with the thread. Also, if I'm at a computer yet unable to watch the game, I'll follow the game threads.

But if I'm watching elsewhere or miss the game altogether, I never go back and read through the game threads. I always figure there's not much worthwhile there.

I agree. That's why I never buy the "I didn't mean to type that" argument.

Or other things. You're exactly right. 99% of the time, I am pretty cool and collected in what I post. What comes out of my mouth or what I do to objects around me is a whole other story. As far as arguing goes, there have been innumerable time that I have thought something snide or vicious, sometimes even typed it out, just to take a deep breath and let it go.

This is why I don't buy the excuse that just because it's a game thread, it's okay to post in knee-jerk fashion.

I've never even really understood how someone could just sit in front of a computer randomly typing comments for 3 straight hours while watching the game.

Many people do it for a better description if the game isn't on TV for them. Others do it so they're essentially watching the game with other people. With fans from across the country(and city), some people don't have the option of knowing anyone that wants to go out and watch a Cubs game. Some of us wouldn't want to hear our idiot friends talk baseball even if they wanted to.

I do it because I can be a pessimistic jerk anonymously (except for the select few that know me to be a pessimistic jerk in real life :))

I do it because I rarely get to watch the game, so having Pat and Ron and a game thread is a close second. On the rare occasion that I am watching the game, there aren't any other Cubs fans around, so it's nice to have people to watch the game 'with.' It was even better for my month of premium when I was ignoring all the people who make those threads so intolerable.

Exactly, I really dont understand the complaining about this thread. This game thread was nowhere near as bad as others we have had. Everytime Hill starts it does get "tense" because there are alot of Rich Hill is a moron, idiot, etc.... which leads to the "Rich Hill Fan Club" to defend him. Other than that little debate last night, I thought it was a pretty tame gamethread for a Rich Hill start.

Rich Hill starts are easily the worst game threads. By far.
