Some poor O's fan turned it off when it was 3-0. Hey, it's a 3 run lead, that should be pretty safe right?

The Rangers only scored in 4 innings of the game. 5, 9, 10, 6. Paul Shuey gave up 9 in 1 and 1/3 to close it out and save the O's bullpen for the 2nd game.

I thought for sure he retired a few years ago. Of course, a beating like this might warrant bringing pitchers out of retirement.

I believe he came out of retirement this season. I think this game will send him right back.

I would tend to agree with you there. Not sure if he could top tonight's game. :D

I love this. There's really no way for a baseball team to take it easy in a blowout. A football team can bring in an entire unit of backups and just run the ball between the guards. A basketball team can bring in an entire unit of backups and run the 4-corners offense to waste time. In baseball, you don't have backups for the entire team, and it this game, you had a doubleheader following, and with all young players in the game there was no "scrubs" to put in. And it's not like you can tell them to take it easy and not make outs.

Plus the callups haven't arrived yet.

There will probably be no cries of "running up the score" either, quite different than, say, a football game. I prefer it this way, just let it happen, don't make a horrible loss look better by having mercy.

You just know that if the Cubs had beatdown going on like that in a game against anyone they'd find a way to make it interesting, if not blow it totally.

I keed, I keed. I don't even think the Cubs to could make that interesting. Hopefully? :?

Some ERAs are going up.

have you checked yours?

I have an ERA? I wasn't aware I was pitching in organized baseball.

maybe he's referring to Prior. And that ERA would be 0.00

Unfortunately, PriorPower's quote still applies.

Funny thing is, thats just an American League record. What in the world is the Major League record?!

For all intents and purposes, it's the modern-day record.

The last time 30 runs were scored in a game was in June of 1897 when the Chicago Colts (now our beloved Cubs) beat some team 36-7.

The box score is amazing. Both the 8 and 9 hitters for the Rangers had four hits, 7 RBI and 10 total bases. Every starter had at least two hits and only one failed to score more than once.

And I agree... that Wes Littleton was awarded a save is absolutely ridiculous.

That rule needs to change, and fast.

Kurkjian squeals like a small child every time something oddball like this happens. It's really quite entertaining.

I know I love when he gets like that. He's a goof and can be annoying at times, but he's in his element when this type of craziness occurs.

I'll have to check out Baseball Tonight.

He--or anyone else, for that matter--can be excused for their behavior about this game.

Thing about it... 30 RUNS! 30!!!

Chances are we'll never see it again.

Kind of reminds me of the thread a couple of days ago about what would happen first, 5 Hr's in a game, 21 K's, or now 30 runs again?

The way offenses are going nowadays (although home runs are down, and I haven't checked for sure, but I think runs in general are down) we almost certainly are gonna see oddball 30 run (or possibly more) games again.
