ESPN 1000: Cubs will pay 2/3 of Izzy's remaining salary.

We'll just pretend that's what they're paying Theriot to actually be somewhat useful at SS.

I wouldn't have had a problem with paying 6/3 of Izturis' remaining contract. Sometimes it's just better to pay someone to play for someone else than to continue playing him on your own team.

I don't get it... why would Selig allow this and not the Jacque Jones deal?

Selig didn't shoot down the Jones deal, Hendry did.

Because Selig didn't veto any Jacque Jones deal.

I'm just glad he is gone...this should free room for Cedeno....let him and Theriot battle for the starting SS job so we can avoid signing another crap veteran SS this offseason. Edited by Soriano12

I don't believe Selig is the one who nixed the Jones deal. I believe it was Hendry.

I thought Selig/MLB shot down the money part of the deal because he didn't want the Cubs racking up more debt as they went on the market?

Wasn't the Jones deal a disagreement on the part of Hendry?

If Selig struck down the Jacque deal (which has basically been refuted) that was a deal in which the Cubs were going to send the Marlins about 6 million dollars. In this deal, the Cubs only send a little over 1 million to the Pirates-that's a huge difference.

Because Selig never got involved on the Jacque Jones deal.

Also, Jones is guaranteed through next year. Izturis's contract is the responsibility of the current owners, whereas Jones would be paid by whomever owns the team next year.

That was the initial report, it has since been disputed by all parties.

Not trying to pick on you...but the $$$ to Jones is a sunk cost...trading him does not add any debt whatsoever, I don't know why folks bring this up.

Myth. Jones is getting paid by the Cubs whether he plays for the Cubs or someone else. Hendry didn't like the return for the amount of money the Cubs had to pick up on the remainder of Jones contract.

I don't see how they would have been racking up more debt by paying Jacque to play for the Marlins when they already have to pay him to rot on our bench.

Iztraded probably has completed his complimentary final goodbye with the Cubs.

Have fun in Pittsburgh.

If you think about it, the Cubs are now paying Izzy to give the Cubs more outs by playing against them.

I think this is a great deal. One stipulation: The returning PTBNL must be alive.

Preferrably, but not a must.

Mention it. Don't insist

I'm sure it will take at least another hour or two to pick up all of his clothes off the sidewalk. :D

Cubs.com says Jake Fox will have number 9 for the Cubs. Some of the recent Cubs to wear number 9:

Juan Pierre, Scott McClain, Jody Gerut, Paul Bako, and Todd Hundley. Hank White also wore it for a season.

Already the best player to wear #9 in recent years.
