Now that I look at Jake Fox's minor league numbers... why are we calling this kid up exactly? His OBP is .327 as a 25 year old in AA.

People are asking why not Murton. Isn't the question why not Cedeno? Or maybe Fox is just there to fill in as a backup 1B while Lee's gone? But with Izturis gone, wouldn't Cedeno be just as good a callup?

Why do the Pirates want Izturis? Don't they have Jack Wilson?

They have a fetish for Cubs crap.

Fix'd.

Seriously. Jose Hernandez, Matt Bruback, Bobby Hill, Jody Gerut...

Cubs almost treat them like a farm team.

Yeah, I think they chose Fox because he's the best option of people that could handle 1B, and then send him back when Dempster comes off the DL.

The Cubs don't analyze that particular stat.

Cedeno will probably come up in the next day or two as well. It will be Cedeno and Dempster up, a pitcher (probably Gallagher) and a position player (either Fox or Fontenot) down.

They already have 3 middle infielders with Theriot, Fontenot and Derosa. I think they just went with the biggest bat they could get, regardless of position.

I wish they'd at least analyze age. As a 25 year old in AA, I'd hope he's putting up pretty good numbers.

With Ward and DeRosa, they've kind of got 1B covered, though. But maybe they don't want to bring up Cedeno or Murton just for a few days. On the other hand, wouldn't Gallagher be the one to go down when Dempster comes back?

They just don't over rate that stat.

Fox has some power and that is what they are looking for.

I agree. Personally I think he will get swallowed up in the bigs...but best wishes to him though.

I can see a scenario where Gallagher or Petrick gets demoted when Dempster comes back and then Fox to be demoted for Cedeno after the return of Lee.

assuming this is true, i wonder if cedeno will be called up soon. right now there is only one SS on the roster, unless Lou is willing to put Fontenot at SS again.

To be fair, he did spend a good portion of his early pro career working on being a catcher, which tends to setback the hitting development of guys quite frequently. But I don't think they see him as any sort of future corner OF star. He's a RH bat for the bench who may fill-in at 1st once or twice while Lee is up. It's quite possibly going to be the only 5 days he spends in the big leagues.

It's more likely they'll send Gallagher down tomorrow when Dempster is activated' otherwise they'd have 13 pitchers. I think a more likely scenerio is that Fox stays up this weekend while Lee is serving his suspension, then when Lee returns next Tuesday Fox goes back down and Cedeno comes up.

The completely misunderstand and under rate it. It's why the offense has been so weak for so many years.

But with just a few games, couldn't they cover 1B in house? Why wait on Cedeno?

Putting DeRosa at 1B leaves no backup 2B, SS, or 3B on the bench.
