Who would want Izturis?

Jim Hendry did last year...

I actually didn't mean that as sarcastic as it sounded. I'm legitimately questioning where he may end up.

In that case.

Houston needs a SS, but they would have to be part of a three way for that to happen I think.

Baltimore maybe, Tejada is out for a while.

I honestly cant think of anyone else that needs a glove SS at this point. Boston maybe but that is a big maybe on my part.

I wonder what teams are under the false impression that Izturis is good defensively?

I meant the glove SS as what he brings to the table. He isnt an offensive SS.

I agree that Fox will likely be sent down in the next couple of days, and that Gallagher was probably the casualty for now.

There's one more possibility though-how about Fontenot? He has really cooled down, and his ability to only play one position really hurts the Cubs flexibility.

The Cubs might have decided that they need to get better against LHP-Fox can play in right field in those days, which allows DeRosa to move to second. Also, Fox can play third on the days that Ramirez takes off and DeRosa plays second.

If not a trade, Gallagher is almost certainly going down today. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Fox will go down instead of Fontenot when Dempster is activated though.

Nah. With Izturis likely on his way out, the Cubs would be short middle infielders if they sent Fontenot down. I suppose they could call up Cedeno, however, which they already should have done.

True, if Izturis is on his way out. But that's hardly a foregone conclusion.

I know most here don't respect Levine's reports because of some report he made a year or two ago that a trade was about to go down which wound up not being true, but for whatever reason, I don't really agree.

Levine was the only person reporting the Nomar deal for all of July 04 (might've even picked up on it in late June), while almost every other reporter said there was nothing to any Nomar rumors. Levine was also the only one who even suggested we could get him without giving up Clement.

I think he gets a lot more crap on here than he deserves.

Who knows if there wasn't a trade about to go down at the time he made that report and it didn't just fall through?

Nah, I'd say he deserves 100% of it.

You're right. The fact that he was the only reporter in town with the scoop on the biggest Cubs trade in recent memory (a month before it even happened) means nothing.

I also remember reading that the Nomar deal was only a myth until a day or two before the deadline when Hendry pulled everyone together and made a deal. I could be remembering wrong though.

Right now? Several teams. He is Izterrible, but that's better than what San Francisco or Houston is playing, and might be valuable to Toronto, Baltimore, the White Sox, or Seattle.

Levine isn't very good at his job. He nailed one scoop. That's like saying Neifi's awesome because he hit one walk off HR.

I highly doubt that it was just a coincidence. It makes more sense that that would be the media covering their asses after 99% of them thought that Nomar was going nowhere, especially not the Cubs.

There had to have been talks of some level for a while.

There's absolutely no way Izturis is better than Vizquel. They're both bad at hitting, but at least Vizquel is as good as advertised defensively.

Who in that profession nails most of their scoops?

Let's face it... for the most part, scoops are just rumors and the vast majority of them don't come true. Doesn't mean there wasn't something to them most of the time, either.

San Fran has Vizquel, just say no Jim, so Izturis isnt old enough.

The White Sox arent buying this year so I cant see them adding him to pay his buy out at the end of the year.

Toronto and Seattle I dont know alot about. Why do you think they would want to add him?

Which trade are we referring to here?

Off the top of my head, a list of teams that could be interested in Cesar:

- Red Sox (hey, they got Cabrera in the Nomar deal)

- Baltimore

- KC

- White Sox

- Twinkies

A couple of these are a strecth. What about the NL?

San Francisco is second to last in the MLB in scoring runs. They need every bit of help they can muster.

It's also not inconceivable that Vizquel or Durham will go to a contender, and they'd need someone like Izturis to hold the spot until the end of the season.

I'm gonna listen in on ESPN 1000.

Someone else with a death wish can listen to 670.

I believe AM 600 also does some sporting news. Meh. If anyone really is bored, they can go ahead and listen to that.

If you hear anything related to this, report back.

You're saying that Levine isn't that bad and basing it on him nailing one trade. I'm saying that him nailing one trade doesn't make up for the overall poor job he does, not just at getting inside info on trades, but analyzing the team, providing insightful commentary and not being smug when people call him out on his poor opinions..
