Gee, no one even joking that Kendall was DFA'd?

It's not really joking... He was DFA'd late last night and Jeff Samardzija was called up to start and take Hill's position in the rotation.

One can only hope.

Who would want Izturis?

Jim Hendry did last year...

I actually didn't mean that as sarcastic as it sounded. I'm legitimately questioning where he may end up.

I agree that Fox will likely be sent down in the next couple of days, and that Gallagher was probably the casualty for now.

There's one more possibility though-how about Fontenot? He has really cooled down, and his ability to only play one position really hurts the Cubs flexibility.

The Cubs might have decided that they need to get better against LHP-Fox can play in right field in those days, which allows DeRosa to move to second. Also, Fox can play third on the days that Ramirez takes off and DeRosa plays second.

If not a trade, Gallagher is almost certainly going down today. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Fox will go down instead of Fontenot when Dempster is activated though.

As much as I like Murton, if he's just sitting on the bench in favor of Cliff Floyd, why bring him up for just 5 games? It makes sense to call on Fox to act as the back up/platoon/ph at 1b with Ward.

I like the move.

Floyd's next injury will likely be Murton's calling card.

Wow. I'm surprised they called up Fox. Good for him though. It will definitely be interesting to see who gets traded, sent down, etc.

We should know soon since the game is an early one today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Izzy is on the way out.

Or maybe we traded Jones/Izturis to Pittsburgh?

I know you're kidding, but one player I could see Pittsburgh being interested in is Scott Moore.

Nah. With Izturis likely on his way out, the Cubs would be short middle infielders if they sent Fontenot down. I suppose they could call up Cedeno, however, which they already should have done.

Lou was quoted talking about Fontenot's struggles, and I've noticed in the past a couple times that guys have been sent down or lost jobs when Lou starts talking about their struggles in the paper.

In that case.

Houston needs a SS, but they would have to be part of a three way for that to happen I think.

Baltimore maybe, Tejada is out for a while.

I honestly cant think of anyone else that needs a glove SS at this point. Boston maybe but that is a big maybe on my part.

How did I miss all of this? Hopefully the word about Izturis is right, I'd love to see him gone. That said, we'd desperately need Cedeno up to backup Riot.

I know most here don't respect Levine's reports because of some report he made a year or two ago that a trade was about to go down which wound up not being true, but for whatever reason, I don't really agree.

Levine was the only person reporting the Nomar deal for all of July 04 (might've even picked up on it in late June), while almost every other reporter said there was nothing to any Nomar rumors. Levine was also the only one who even suggested we could get him without giving up Clement.

I think he gets a lot more crap on here than he deserves.

Who knows if there wasn't a trade about to go down at the time he made that report and it didn't just fall through?

He had a good game yesterday, couple of walks and a hit. I think he just needs to sit vs. LHP.

I wonder what teams are under the false impression that Izturis is good defensively?

Nah, I'd say he deserves 100% of it.

They don't need to officially announce the move until right before game time. Maybe they're waiting to see if the Izturis trade (assuming Levine is right) can be completed in time for today's game and if not somebody (my guess is still Gallagher) gets sent down.

Some teams like having veteran depth during the stretch run as well.
