I'm still intrigued by the notion that Fox is up so that other teams can have a look at him prior to the trade deadline...

 

Fox, Jones, and a couple others for Griffey or Dunn perhaps? :wink:

I believe AM 600 also does some sporting news. Meh. If anyone really is bored, they can go ahead and listen to that.

I'll bite the bullet and listen to the SCORE. They just had an update saying there's grumblings that Izturis is close to being traded.

I think it does. The only thing I know of Levine is what he does on comcast. He seems like a Sam Smith, throw everything to the wall and see what sticks, kind of guy. He's awful when analyzing what's wrong with the team, falling back on the crutch of them needing to be more clutch and needing chemistry and stuff like that. If Bruce Miles starts to talk about a potential deal, I'll perk up. But if Levine doesn, I really don't have any confidence in it.

 

Fair enough. As for the comparison to Sam Smith, I don't know if that even applies... Smith seems to come up with crazy trade scenarios, but he never really reports them as rumor.

 

He pretty much overtly states that he's speculating and really just making up his own fantasies.

 

At least, that's the impression I get. You might be able to come up with examples to the contrary.

They don't need to officially announce the move until right before game time. Maybe they're waiting to see if the Izturis trade (assuming Levine is right) can be completed in time for today's game and if not somebody (my guess is still Gallagher) gets sent down.

Except simply sending Gallagher down doesn't open a spot for Fox on the 40-man.

 

They're going to need to create openings on both the 40- and the 25-man rosters.

True; I'd mentioned in an earlier post in this thread that I thought they might transfer Blanco to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man. Of course, if an Izturis trade is completed before game time, that might make room on the 40-man (depending on what the Cubs get back in return).

Very good point, but there's a difference I believe. Bowen wasn't the point of that trade, it was to acquire Kendall, so to speak. The point of this proposed deal would appear to be to trade away Izturis. If you DFA him then I'd think the chances of that type of deal happening would go down.

That wouldn't surprise me, and if so I think that would take care of the 40-man issue (I don't think players who have been DFA'd count against the 40-man, but I'm not sure about that).
