  1. We had them for just basic cable and HBO last year to watch the Sopranos. When we called to cancel the HBO, the guy found some way to give it to us free for a year. So they're OK in my book. :D until you realize it's comcast cable, and then you'll want to kill yourself It's remarkable how Comcast seems to magically find ways to make my bill a bit higher every single month.
  2. For the record, my son was born a week ago Monday and the Cubs haven't lost since. Coincidence? I agree--Lilly better have his good stuff tonight.
  3. I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas. ](*,) Soooo pissed right now. yep this sucks. I'm getting the same thing. Let me know if you find something that works. I had this problem earlier in the season but figured out it was my anti-virus software blocking things. Pausing protection solved the issue. It's not working for me that way now, but maybe a new version of Firefox that's trying to block out suspicious flash programs? When was the last update?
  4. I'd agree--I don't think he's worth the price to this team.
  5. I can't imagine Pie alone would do it--for someone as good as Nathan, they're not going to trade for just potential. I could see DeRosa and Murton potentially working.
  6. To me, the upgrade at SS is much more pressing than 2B, and Greene sounds like a good possibility. After Fukudome, though, I can't imagine the Padres are chomping at the bit to deal with the Cubs.
  7. I teach freshman writing. So for me, college never ends. Grading can be a bear, but summers are nice. :D
  8. My mom lives in San Diego and I spent Christmases there growing up as a kid. It makes headlines when the temperature gets below freezing (those poor orange trees!!). But that is to say it can get a little chilly. Still, 60s during the day in December isn't all that bad. It is odd that most houses there don't have basements (and are generally just not constructed as solidly as in the midwest). I don't know if I'd dig the water problems and wildfires, but otherwise San Diego is pretty much perfect (except for the sports teams :D ).
  9. Which bar is that? I'm in Minneapolis. I think I may have seen a story on it sometime, but there's times when I might be able to sneak out to catch a half at a Bears place.
  10. .672 OPS against left handers last year. Not exactly what the Cubs need, but I guess he is left-handed.
  11. The Twins also need offense more than anything, so while Hill or Lilly (probably the former due to contract) would be nice, the Twins would like a young impact bat--as many as possible. I'd say Hill, Pie, and maybe one other solid IF prospect might get consideration. I'd be somewhat wary of Santana--his numbers dropped off last year and he'll be looking for big years/money.
  12. He actually was pretty decent this last year. Had an ERA of around 4, if my memory serves. In the NL that probably drops a bit. He's definitely a back end rotation guy, though, and can be inconsistent. But when he's on, he's quite good. He had like a 70 pitch complete game a couple of years ago. He's also best friends with Santana, and there's some talk that the Twins wouldn't let him go if they were serious about resigning Johan. But there's a lot of trade talk right now about him as well, so maybe the Twins will end up losing both.
  13. I just can't imagine him doing this, even though that's a LOT of money. This is like Damon going from the Red Sox to the Yankees, only much worse. Hunter's been the main face of the Twins for years. I can't imagine what folks in MN would say about this.
  14. Five years seems very real to me--he'd be 37 when that's done. I could see 6-7, depending on the bidding. He's had some leg issues, but with natural turf, I could see him lasting that long. At this point, I can't imagine why someone wouldn't sign him for CF, since that's where his numbers have the most value. He's nothing special as a corner OF, though he could move over if needed as time goes on.
  15. I think he brings power, defense, and leadership, but I also think he's going to get overpaid. I think he'd be a great fit (I know most on this board don't). I really don't remember anything with him being any more or less active than any other players in the community. I'd have questions about defense over the life of the contract he's likely to receive, and I definitely think he'd be overpaid. Given the in-house options at this point for CF (Pie, Colvin), it doesn't seem like a place where the Cubs need to spend a lot of money. Investing in shortstop or RF would address a more glaring need, imo.
  16. I'd agree that Torii's not really the plate discipline guy that most people might want. He does bring power to the table, however--30 HRs or so the last two years. He carried the Twins for the first half of '07 (and my son's favorite player). The other issue is that he hates artificial turf. Not sure that would matter at Wrigley. FWIW, I live in the most predominantly African American section of town and I've never heard of Torii over here for anything. It's great if he wants to be a leader, but it hasn't really happened here.
  17. Pie? Are you crazy? I would never give up Pie. How about Guzman instead? Again--the need is a bat (or 2 or 3) in Minnesota. How would this deal be in the least bit attractive? The only offensive player here is Fontenot, and the Twins have plenty of those already. I'm not sure even Pie is enough--his ML experience hasn't exactly inspired confidence. Somebody like Soto might be a start, but the Twins are obviously set at catcher for now, unless they decide to move Mauer to a different position.
  18. The Twins don't really need pitching, though I'm sure they wouldn't mind a starter of the Marshall variety back in this deal. They need bats--particularly power bats at 3rd or in the OF (especially if Torii leaves). And something inexpensive, since Mauer and Morneau only have a few years left. I just don't think the Cubs have that kind of cheap offensive talent at the positions the Twins need.
  19. My kid has been waking up quite a bit, so I don't enter this with a wealth of sleep to draw on, but I'm going to try to make it with the help of some caffeine on the back end--to help me wake up. Hopefully with the Cubs up by 10 in the fourth inning, it will be easier to go to bed early if I need to. :D
  20. It's also past my son's bedtime, so I can sit and watch in relative peace--I can at least drink coffee for a lack of sleep.
  21. If we're lucky. I still can't believe there wasn't one postseason appearance from 1945-84. How much would that hurt? At least I've had 5 appearances in my 30-odd years of life.
  22. Is Ditka playing?
  23. How's that work? Mobile phone broadband connection?
  24. [sob] I've just been hurt too many times. Can I really believe in love again?? [/sob]
  25. I remember watching that Game 6 back in 2003 and just knowing that the Cubs would find a way to lose. It's like reading the end of the book beforehand. Yet I still get exciting hoping this story ends differently. I certainly hope it does.
