No, something did not have to be done, because there was no real problem. The numbers you showed are meaningless. Look at Barrett's numbers catching the staff over a longer period of time, and you can clearly see that there is very little variation.

Again, they aren't meaningless. What I'm saying is that Zambrano had a problem with Barrett this year, and previous numbers, in that instance, are meaningless. There's no way to prove it, but if there wasn't a problem, it was an odd coincidence.

If you're going to pretend that 1/2 of the season's worth of starts are meaningless, there's no reason to continue the conversation, because you've apparently already made up your mind and are unwilling to accept anything else.

Great start to the Kendall era wouldn't you say. At least he makes up for his defensive gaffes with his bat...uh well...uh....oh boy....

It was only one game...but it wasn't pretty. At least he didn't strike out! :P

And there's the silver lining

well, nobody else seemed to have a problem with barrett so why in the hell isn't it zambrano's fault? seriously, why is barrett the bad guy when 4/5 of the rotation seemed cool with him?

From my previous post:

Is it Zambrano's problem as much as Barrett's? Absolutely, but something had to be done to fix the situation.

Apparently, Hendry picked to dump Barrett.

I'm not even saying it was definitely a Zambrano-Barrett issue, just that it seemed weird that 19 of 20 Zambrano starts correlate to either pitching well without Barrett back there or pitching poorly with Barrett back there. It's the weirdest pitcher-catcher correlation I've ever seen.

If there indeed was an issue, though, then obviously something had to be done to fix the "staff ace". Either tell Zambrano to suck it up, work with Barrett to figure out what's up, or trade one of them. Obviously, Hendry chose option C and dumped Barrett.

If there was a track record of pitchers not liking catchers leading to them sucking, then I would take this seriously. But it could easily be a coincidence. How about Zambrano just was in a slump for a myriad of other possible reasons? Or maybe his competition was tougher when Barrett was pitching. Or... you get the idea.

Kendall ruined our season. We will now lose by just 1 game. Fire Hendry and Lou, have a firesale. And shoot them.

Did I cover the basics?

oh no. kendall will cost the cubs more than one game.

Kendall will sit Wednesday, catch his breath, and is expected back in the lineup on Thursday for the series finale. He's got to cram quickly to get to know the Cubs pitching staff.

"It's a process," Kendall said. "They have to get trust in me and think about hitting the glove. It was a tough game -- two plays I should've made, and they cost the game. That's the bottom line."

It's nice to see him stand up and take the blame. Doesn't mean that anybody should forgive him for costing us a possible win, but I still like it.

Yeah, he just never really seemed comfortable back there last night and thus played bad. Hopefully he'll turn it around and be a solid player all around for the remainder of the year. Of course that could just be the eternal optimist in me....

I will admit thought that my arguments in his favor did take a hit last night.

My catcher makes both of those plays last night - he's nine years old.

Although in Kendall's defense, he is a Little League All-Star.

He hasn't been solid for quite some time now.

I'm pretty sure what we saw last night is what he is now.

Any argument made in favor of Kendall took a hit long before last night.

I argued it's nigh impossible for the Kendall deal to hurt us. That also took a hit last night. He better not be this bad. Blanco, save us!!! 8-)

well, if he's this terrible then lou will bench him. He has shown little patience in players that aren't preforming. Another week or two and if nothing improves then we could see soto back. If nothing else he could be a good mentor to soto.

He should have made that catch on the popup behind the plate, but it would have taken a hell of a play to pick that throw from Soriano and put a tag on the runner.

Soriano made a tough throw for a catcher to handle. I'd like to see any catcher cleanly pick that throw and put down a tag.
