Bruce, around baseball, is Michael Barrett generally considered to be "baseball dumb" or to have "poor baseball instincts" or however you want to phrase it?

However you want to phrase it.

Anyone still want to debate whether the picthers wanted Barrett to be traded?

Tough to say, the hurlers have been considerably better but Bowen did say that he had big shoes to fill and the pitchers let him know about it.

He is an automatic out every time in the lineup.
Yep; like in the third inning last night, for example.

Oh, wait.

And what was the point of that post? It doesn't change the fact that he has a whopping career OPS of 579. That is basically an auto out.

I was pointing out that you were overstating things (although admittedly not by much). He's horrible, but not quite an automatic out. Having said that, though, I'd still much rather have Soto as backup catcher.

Soto is fine, I'd also take Hank the Tank back and healthy over Hill. I don't care how good a catcher is behind the plate, it does not make up for someone as futtil offensively as Koyie Hill.

their performance says it doesn't matter.

and if they wanted him gone just because they didn't like him then that's just as much their problem as barrett's.

has anyone thought of our fan favorite and what will happen to Hank White?
If he's able to return there's no doubt in my mind that he would return as backup catcher and Hill would go. I'm not sure how certain it is he will return, since he had a recent setback with a shoulder injury.

Look, I'm not saying it's the case, but is it really impossible that Barrett simply wasn't a good "fit," whatever that means, with this team at this point? Maybe his performance with the Padres is an example of the old hoary "change of scenery" cliche. Again, I'm not saying that this is at all definite, but you seem to respond to every idea that Barrett's time with this team had simply run its course as if they can't possibly be correct.

that's because there's nothing to support that idea besides speculation.

It IS just speculation, of course, but it was widely reported that Barrett leaked the gist of a players-only meeting to ESPN. That's a good way to instantly piss off your team, if true.

No one on this board can say for sure if the speculation is true (with the possible exception of Bruce Miles), but you can't assume it's false either. It certainly is plausible given Floyd's quote and the fight with Z.

Bruce, is there any more love for Aramis in the press box after not only signing for below market value, but being the team's best offensive player (again)?

You'd have to ask those in the press box who didn't like him before. I'm not in that group.

I wonder what the Cubs pitchers thought of Bowen then?

For the last four weeks, they've been thrilled with who has been behind the plate.

Do you sense any apprehension among them with this move?

Too early to tell. But none so far.

Presumably that includes Soto as well?

Not enough time to tell.

pardon me for skimming this thread, but was Soto sent back down?

Not yet, though we don't know for sure.

It's looking like he will be.

How 'bout the 40-man situation, that needs to be changed too.

Not really. Bowen's spot goes to Kendall, Soto has options so he'll just get demoted to Iowa.

No, it doesn't. Bowen left a spot open on the 40-man, which Kendall took.

If someone points out again that we never should of traded Barrett i think i might headbutt my pc!!! It was clearly not just Z who didn't get on with Barrett. Floyd made a statement about someone in the clubhouse' not being part of the family, we don't want that guy here' the next week Barrett is traded. Issue over we couldn't keep Barrett without causing major issues in the clubhouse. Kendall is not ideal but outside Pasada (cue Vance!!) who else could Hendry of looked at without giving up significant prospects?? you want Salty from the Braves? kiss goodbye to a combination of Marshall/Hill/Pie/Veal/Gallagher. It would probably of taken 3 of those guys to get Salty. I agree that Hendry needs to do more and get us an upgrade at RF,CF or SS but we're really no worse off than we were before, and most importantly we're winning!!

I would have preferred Ramon Hernandez.

The Cubs will have to make a roster move today. Soto could be sent back to Triple-A Iowa or Hill could be designated for assignment. The Cubs also need to make a move on the 40-man roster.
