i really wonder what zambrano's teammates think of him. do you think lee appreciates his public backing of young? or do you think the rest of the team likes him talking about siging w/ the white sox/cardinals? or all the talk he made about individual awards? or the punching people in the face? or the grand gestures he makes toward guys on the field?

Or the winning of baseball games?

I think some are likely annoyed. But I think he's tolerable due to the fact that he brings so much to the table.

i'm not saying he's not worth the headaches, but i bet he's not best buds w/ everyone on the team.

Z is as loveable as it gets really. So I would take that bet.

Just because Young likely threw at Lee doesn't mean he's not a good pitcher and not the most worthy, out of the Last Ballot candidates, of being in the All-Star game. Z isn't saying that Young's a great guy. All Z is saying is that Young has outpitched Z this year. Which is true.

As far as the rest of it, what you said later is probably correct - that he's not best buds with some of his teammates.

I don't think it matters who goes to whose house for cake and punch.

I also don't think we can know who likes who and who doesn't.

and most impotantly, who gives a carp?

Not me.

Abuck has some unkown reason to hate Zambrano. Keep it, it is your bricks to carry. Enjoy the load.

It looks like even Zambrano thinks we should vote for Young.

Link.

Instead of stumping for votes, Zambrano seemed to be throwing his support behind San Diego Padres pitcher Chris Young (8-3, 2.14 ERA).

“The only thing I was surprised at was that Chris Young of the San Diego Padres wasn’t on that team,” Zambrano said, referring to the pitching staff already chosen. “He deserved to go. He’s done good this year. Honestly, he’s the one that deserves to go, not me.”

I agree Carlos.

Are you serious? Whenever people would criticize Z for being psycho, immature, a baby, etc. abuck was usually the 1st to defend him.

I like how asking a legitimate question if his teammates dislike him turns into "abuck hates zambrano!".

Roy Oswalt was added to the roster in place of Smoltz. And then there were four. . .

Thats BS. If anybody was to be added to the roster how in the hell can it not be Young? The guy has a 2 something ERA, hes getting absolutely screwed.

There was no discretion in this case apparently. Smoltz was voted in by the players, so they just went to the player who had the next most number of votes, and that was Oswalt.

reputation. And too be honest, If I was starting a team from scratch, I'd take Oswalt over Young without thinking twice.

that's quite an imagination you got there.

For the final time, the suspension only applies to "real" games. Despite all the "This Time It Counts" marketing, the ASG is an exhibition. Young can play in it all he wants.

The suspension does not affect Young playing in the ASG.

What sucks isn't that he can still play in the All-Star Game. What sucks is that the only effect of a five-game suspension is that he'll have to pitch the second game back after the All-Star break rather than the first; being pushed back one day, as opposed to actually missing a start, is getting off free. If the All-Star Game were included as you seem to want then he'd only miss 4 regular season games, which would merely be the games he'd be missing between starts anyway.

The All-Star Game should not be one of the five games missed. He should miss the game because he was suspended. Suspended players should not be allowed to participate in the All-Star Game that year. For pitchers, it should not be 5 games missed, but rather 5 starts (this is what happens to position players...5 starts).

So a position player should miss 5/162 3% of the season and a starting pitcher should miss 5/32 or 16% of the season? That sounds fair.

That is too much, but there has to be a happy medium. Young's 5/162 punishment is not a 1/32 because he doesn't even miss one start. He is simply pushed back a day.
