Wasnt sure if this was the appropriate place but I was reading on rotoworld and thought I'd pass along. This is not a rumor, just something rotoworld mentioned.

Ramon Hernandez (Orioles) - 07: $6.5 million, 08-09: $15.5 million, 10: $8.5 million option

The Orioles don't need to dump salary and first-round pick Matt Wieters is at least two years away, so there's no pressing need to move Hernandez. Still, if the right offer comes along, there'd be no reason not to consider it, especially since there will be a strong crop of catchers available this winter. Hernandez would be a big upgrade for the Cubs, Rockies or Diamondbacks. If the Cubs would part with Carlos Marmol and a lesser pitching prospect, they could get a deal done

Marmol is going nowhere.

Hendry would have to enter Witness Protection if he schloughed him off somewhere.

The other day was the perfect example of why Marmol is so effective. 4 seamer strike one 93mph. 2 seamer strike two 95 MPH. Slider 83 mph have a seat mr. tulowitzki, who looked baffled.

Next batter- slider 85 strike one. 4 seamer 94 mph strike two. Oh you think my slider is my out pitch? Well here is a 2 seamer 96MPH. Now you can have a seat Mr. Torrealba. 2 straight ML batters looking absolutely foolish buckling at the plate looking for something.

Marmol is untouchable because of the sideways movement on his pitches, the speed, the ability to pitch on both sides of the plate and the change in velocity. There is little wonder why his ERA is 1.29. I wouldnt even trade Marmol straight up for Hernandez.

Catcher's the only position that I've ever been willing to concede any kind of "defense can be just as important as offense" argument to. We need to upgrade at short, a position where that doesn't apply. Bowen and Hill call a fine game and are both excellently defensively, so there is no reason to say that it is more of a position of need than short.

I agree with all of you. I wouldnt trade marmol either. I think the kid is the best pitcher we have in the pen. I was more looking at the fact they had us associated with a trade for Hernandez. I don't think he is worth the money it would take or the talent and I kinda like the catchers we have right now. They are not all stars but they are serviceable and cheap.

I think you have your two seamers and four seamers mixed up.

I'm not against trading Marmol, and I wouldn't mind a catcher upgrade. But I don't think a Marmol+ deal for Hernandez helps the Cubs much. He's older than Barrett and has logged considerably more time behind the plate than him. It's likely his best days are well behind him, and he's owed pretty big bucks.

I think I'd rather pay the minimum to a Soto, Bowen, Hill combo and spend that $7-8m on upgrades in other spots, and keep the talent it would take to trade for the upgrade of Hernandez.

And if the Cubs had money laying around to throw at Ramon Hernandez, couldn't we just throw it at Zambrano instead?

Hmmmmm... a guy who has a 1.29ERA, 1.04WHIP, and 29K's in 21IP and is making league minimum INCLUDING a lesser prospect, for a guy who is making $6.5 million and is hitting .239 with 3HR and an OPS+ of 89 (.706OPS) who has some slight injury issues and is over the hill for a catcher?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... I don't know. That is a tough one

I wouldnt mind getting Saltalamaccia, but I think that would cost WAY too much.

Epatt and Marmol for Salty?

I'd do it.
