Ah, the truth beginning to leak slowly:

But Barrett, whose catching skills aren't exactly held in high regard by Cubs' pitching staffs both past and present, is also a drama queen. He's had his share of tantrums, beginning with his part in the destruction of Sammy Sosa's boom box in 2004, with his home plate brawl with Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski in 2006, and now this. It doesn't help that he's hitting .241 (.217 in May) and has been brutal on the basepaths.

Sammy deserved it. What a little diva. Good ballplayer, but a selfish diva.

Barrett is a drama queen? OK, Gene.

the truth becomes to leak slowly? everyone has known about both those things for sometimes. Zambrano is the tool who calls out teammates when he is the one blowing it.

Wow, the media made out like Z killed Barrett. MB really doesn't look that bad from what I saw of his press conference. A little bruise under the left eye and six stitches on his lip.

Seriously, Z is one big man. One square punch breaks bones.

This is the first time i have ever seen anything printed. There have been hints and allegations in interviews with Stone and Walker and a few others, but no one had put it to ink.

Uh, what? All the innuendo I'd heard seemed to trace Sosa's boombox smashing to Kerry Wood.

But Barrett hypnotized Kerry to do it for him.

And at Great America he hypnotized Kerry to act like he smelled someone's farts.

But seriously, yes, up until this point, only Kerry had been named in the stereo incident, not that its a big deal or anything. I don't think anyone has a problem with the destruction and also I don't think anyone thought it was a one person incident. I would be happy to hear it was every single person on the team who had a hand in that.

Barrett slept with Sunny's wife.

I always thought that was Cindy Sandberg.

Maybe Cindy IS Sunny's wife now. After all, we do know she's divorced from Ryne.

Fox News Chicago's Corey McPherrin will interview Barrett in the Final Word today at 10pm. I'll summarize it if he says anything special.

EDIT: Video right here

Barrett

- Has talked to Carlos, yesterday.

-Talked to him 1 on 1

- Forgives him.

- Accepts apology

-The bad throw sparked it

- Got crossed up on the signs

- Rushed his throw

- Was frustrated by pitcher getting a hit

- Have had multiple heated discussions in the dugout and clubhouse before.

- Never had an issue like this.

- Went in the clubhouse to ask him he did what he did.

- Took it personally that he came after him in the dugout.

- Bothered him so much because he cares about Z.

- Underestimated his anger in the clubhouse.

- Thinks it was a buildup of stress that caused Lou's ejection.

- Feeling physically fine.

- Will play hard, smart baseball. Matter of time.

They both will be here the rest of the year. Barrett will not be around Z ever. Next year Barrett probably won't be resigned. Even though MB is not hitting like were used to he's still a better option then Blanco or the guy from AAA.

Barrett might be better this year and next year than either guy from AAA, but there's no way he's taking a one year contract. You have to look at who will be better two or three years down the road. Barrett will turn 31 in the offseason and, as a catcher, will likely be wearing down (or already is). He will also decline faster than the average player because of this. It will be better for the Cubs if Barrett isn't wearing a Cubs uniform in 2008.

Steve Stone just painted a pretty bad picture of Z from the fight.

Stone said:

- Barrett called a slider and Z threw a fastball on the past ball

- Barrett wasn't pointing to the scoreboard but was pointing towards Derosa for confirmation on what pitch he called on the past ball.

- After the fight, Barrett went into the clubhouse to bury the hatchet and Zambrano hit him with "a couple of sucker punches."

Not sure where he is getting this all from but this is what he just said.

Ive been wondering who was actually mixed up on the pitch. Not sure how Stone knows this though cause I havent seen it reported anywhere

Haven't you learned by now that Steve Stone knows everything.

How was he pointing at DeRosa? Was Mark standing in front of the dugout or something?

he was on the on-deck circle.

but yeah, derosa wasn't floating in front of the scoreboard, which is where barrett was pointing.

Yes, he was standing in front of the dugout. On the replay of the incident you can see him reach over the fence to try to restrain Zambrano.

BTW, I heard Stone say Barrett was talking to DeRosa and not pointing at the scoreboard as well. It was because DeRo was able to see the pitch that Barrett called. Zambrano, reportedly, got upset because he was embarrassed that there was someone else that knew he (not Barrett) had thrown the wrong pitch. I guess Barrett getting confirmation of the called pitch set Z off.

As far as why Steve Stone knows this, I have to figure that he spoke with the players involved. I know from listening to him in the past that he's been in the clubhouse quite a few times this season.

LOL, I hear ya--he's a know it all but his explanation sounded credible considering where DeRosa was and Barrett's immediate reactions. After watching the tape a few times, it doesn't seem to me that Barrett was being sarcastic. He looked shocked by Zambrano's reaction.
