Does this also mean that Soriano won't be going on the DL?

I'd imagine it means he'll be fine and Pie will likely be up here only for a few days. Guzman was the obvious choice for them simply because he pitched two innings last night.

That makes a lot of sense. How long does Guzman have to stay down until they can call him back up?

I think this might be a good thing. Angel will no doubt start at Iowa, and in ten days time might be ready to take Wade's spot.

I'll say this, knowing that the kid who is breathing down my neck is going down to Iowa to stretch out would scare the hell out of me if I were Wade Miller.

That being said, I would have rather it been Cotts because we don't need three lefties.

Pie wearing 17

Odd. He was 15 in the minors til last year, then switched to 20. Good thing I didn't buy the #20 jersey on sale before last year. I gotta rep with my Cedeno #5!

It's what, two weeks? I really hate when Hendry starts doing this with his bullpen.

He's been #17 on the 40-man since at least late last year, I believe. Not sure why he never changed to 20 once Ryu was moved, but he didn't.

would any body have minded if ohman didnt clear waivers?

Yeah.

He was good last year, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt so far this season.

It's way too early to just give away a tradable asset. I'm sure after a few more innings Ohman will look better.

WTF they sent Guzman down! Thats a bad move

Not if they're going to stretch him out to start.

Well thats true, but it remains to be seen.

Guzman being sent down really sends a message to Miller that he has one maybe two starts to show he deserves his spot in the rotation, if he doesn't get the job done then Angel will get his shot. I think he will eventually get his shot anyway because there is going to be an injury at some point during the season, there always is.

Guzman down? Of course. :x

So I guess, barring injury, Miller gets at least one more start after today regardless of performance. Guzman will have to stay down 10 days if there aren't any injuries.

I was just piling on the 'Wade Miller needs to not be in a Cubs uniform' crowd.

Obviously Wade Miller wouldn't get sent down today, or probably even tomorrow, unfortunately. I have a sneaking suspicion Hendry wants him to pitch at least 3 games.

Alot a people thought Pie wouldn't be up in the game thread last night unless someone was put on the DL.

Nevertheless. I am excited to see Pie, and I'm sure the kid is really excited to get his debut with the cubbies. Who would have thought It'd be early april for just a few breif days.

Of course, that was likely the situation prior to this move. This just means Angel will get a few starts in to force the issue, rather than trying to force it in sporadic relief.

I think this is a good sign. they want Guzman to prepare to take a spot in the rotation. He needs the work of being a starter before they throw him in the rotation. It may not look the greatest right now but it really doesn't mean much that Ohman stayed and Guzman got sent down.

I'm excited about Gooz being sent down if the intent is to get him ready to start again. He's really starting to round into form.

i wouldn't worry at all. the guy is dominating and needs to be stretched out. they wouldn't send him down so that he can languish in the AAA bullpen. i think that short of a shutout today, miller will be taken out of the rotation soon.

i'm getting pretty excited about guz.

If that's the plan, fine by me. I won't hold my breathe.

The likelihood is that Guzman would have a hard time getting stretched out enough to start on Sunday anyway. Now he possibly has a minor league start in between, and that will make it much easier to make a move if the organization thinks that he can pitch enough innings.
