Excuse the hijack, but I have to post this.

Watching the Cards/Pirates game. Hrabosky was bashing Laroche for his pre pitch ritual, he points the bat toward the pitcher lkind of like Ryan Howard. Hrabosky says, "Howard can do that, he's the MVP, this guy can't even hit .100, it looks bad when he does it."

The next pitch Laroch takes Wainwright deep for a 3-run HR.

It was great.

Oh yes, I was almost to the point of yelling at Hrabosky when he got on LaRoche for looking like he didn't care, while he was in the batters box preparing for the pitch. Simply awesome.

So all things considered, this is a pretty important start for the Cubs. If Miller is bad again, it's going to be time for Piniella to seriously consider binning the Wade Miller Experiment.

BTW, who got sent down/DL'd for Pie?

Nothing official yet but Santo just said he heard it may be a pitcher. My guess is Ohman.

Guzman or Cotts would be more likely. Ohman woulnd't clear waivers

From the Cubs Media Dept.:

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled outfielder Felix Pie from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding roster move, Chicago optioned right-handed relief pitcher Angel Guzman to Iowa.

Pie, 22, is hitting .444 (16-for-36) with a home run and six RBI in 11 games with Iowa this season. He has nine walks and 16 runs scored, having hit safely in 10 of his 11 appearances with a .583 slugging percentage and a .543 on-base percentage.

Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Chicago July 3, 2001, Pie (pronounced Pee-yay) has appeared in 498 career minor league games with a .296 batting average (587-for-1,981), 43 home runs and 220 RBI. He has 173 walks and 99 stolen bases.

Following the 2006 season, Pie was named the top prospect in the Cubs organization by Baseball America. He earned a Gold Glove in the 2006 Dominican Winter League following the season.

Pie, who will wear number 17, is looking to make his Major League debut and is available for today’s game vs. San Diego at 1:20 p.m. CT.

Guzman, 25, has posted a 2.45 ERA (2 ER/7.1 IP) while walking one and striking out eight in four relief appearances for Chicago this season. He was originally signed by the Cubs as a minor league free agent November 12, 1999.

I had a sneaking suspicion.

Now he can go into the rotation and be prepared to start for the Cubs next time through the rotation. No more 12 pitchers nonsense.

That's the likely reason; to stretch him out.

I have a feeling Miller is going to continue to suck

Unless they're going to have him start a couple times during his mandatory 10 day stay in Iowa so he's ready to take Miller's spot, I don't like the move. He did nothing to deserve being optioned.

would any body have minded if ohman didnt clear waivers?

Yeah.

He was good last year, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt so far this season.
