Any two of the 3 Drew, Manny, Soriano would be fine. I think if the Cubs sign Drew then they won't be able to get Manny as easily as they would if Boston signs Drew. I'd prefer Drew and Manny myself.

How about between Drew and Soriano and Manny and Soriano?

I think I'd have to go Manny because of his much better bat, although Drew's likely lower salary, younger age, and superiority in the field would make it a little harder of a decision than it seems.

Honestly, I mean truthfully. How likely do you think it is that we could actually get Manny? I expect Theo would STILL want alot of talent for him. I mean, are the Red Soxs DESPERATE to trade him? I don't think so.

WE are the desperate ones. So if you really want Manny, expect to spend some good players. .

Manny would at least be entertaining, we could use that.

Well yes, he and Lou could put on quite a show. :D

Imagine what the Hustle Police would do with Manny jogging every ground ball and pop fly out?

I've heard they're getting new sirens installed solely because ARam is coming back. If Manny was traded here they would, at the very least, need to double to number of policemen. Can the city of Chicago afford that kind of investment? I'm not so sure.

does anybody really think we are going to get 2 of manny, drew, soriano? for one, if we land drew, the red sox will be real reluctant to give up a big OF bat like manny. and, this is the cubs we're talking about.

we'll be lucky to get one. and manny doesnt fill our hole in CF.

i would love to have Manny playing at Wrigley.. A Career line of .314/.411/.500/1.011 This guy would be crushing balls into lake michigan..If hope we are pursuing him, or if we dont land a Soriano, or C Lee, Definetley go and get Manny

There's some funky math going on there.

I have read that the Sox may only want prospects for Manny. They want to dump his salary, not get equal value. I suspect Izturis and a combo of our top young pitchers could get it done.

Perhaps if one of those pitchers is Hill.

I would say no to that deal. Not because Hill is necessarily great, but since he seems to have turned the corner, it'd be a shame for his true breakout to be in boston.

That's what I'm thinkin man. Boston is not going to give up Manny for Marshall, Guzman, and Veal (which is still somewhat an ok package) but instead we'd have to be giving up Hill, Pie, Murton (those types of packages to get Manny). So why not just beat Boston's bid for Drew instead of putting THEM at the advantage costing us a loss of good players just to get Manny.

Guys, Boston has more than once tried to give Manny away for free. If you want to pay a cheap price in talent, tell Boston that you'll pick up the whole salary and I doubt you'll pay much.

Thats why I say this is the year to grab him. The Cubs don't seem to have a problem spending money this year. And they want to win now.....

Rosenthal weighs in and lists the Manny suitors with the Cubs first:

"Cubs: Ramirez would be a perfect fit if the Cubs struck out on Soriano; general manager Jim Spendry — er, Hendry — could sign Julio Lugo or Gary Matthews Jr. to hit leadoff, and a lineup that featured Derrek Lee and both Manny and Aramis Ramirez would be obscene. The Cubs could part with shortstop Cesar Izturis and bullpen arms; they still would need starting pitching."

Izturis and bullpen arms for Manny. That would be a steal. We would not have to lock up Soriano with a 7-year deal that will last until he is 38-39 we get Manny for two years and can look at the market after that. Manny is and RBI machine and would be perfect. For that low asking price I would jump all over it.

yes, we should be all over it. And I buy this rumor that it would just take Izzy and bullpen arms. And Boston can pick any bullpen arm they want, including Wuertz, for Manny.

They can have the whole bullpen if they want

Manny going from a small left field at Fenway to a rather large one at Wrigley makes me cringe.

His defense can't be any worse than Alou's. Get a good CF and it would help hide a lot of his shortcomings.

I only know of the one time he was put on irrevocable waivers. Were there others?

Na, one time on irrevocable waivers. But I'm sure he's been passed through waivers every summer. And I don't think Boston would have pulled him back if anyone had claimed him.

And the rumors have been they've practically begged other teams to trade for him without luck.
