Buster Olney on ESPN Radio: stating that Manny is on the mkt and there is a lot of "play" for him as the Drew signing is imminent. Red Sox are lowering their demands to the level that the Yanks received for Sheff. Could happen by Sat.

EDIT:

Involved teams:

Giants

Pads

Dodgers

Angels and Indians might have had interest at one time.

Note: he also says that McGwire will never get into the HOF.

I wish I were reading the Cubs on that list of involved team...

Me too.

Then I considered the source...

Do you think Jim will slide in there and make an offer?

I doubt it.

MAYBE, and I do mean MAYBE he could swing it in a 3 or 4-team deal, but straight up I don't think we have what it takes to get him.

If the Cubs somehow did get involved, Howry should not even be considered. Eyre maybe, but not Howry. The NL Central is completely stacked with right-handed lineups and Howry is as close to dominant as you'll get from a right-handed reliever.

If Howry is what it takes, so be it. Manny in the line-up is 10X more valuable than the 60 IP Howry will throw.

I think the only way he gets involved is if Lou has expressed a man crush on the guy. I don't see Manny as a guy Jim would target on his own, not with his recent trend of thinking about clubhouse chemistry and ball catching. Then again, he did hit .323 with RISP, so maybe Jim will put his fetish for such stats to good use.

I understand the line of thinking. I'm just hoping Eyre gets pushed more than Howry, particularly given the Yankees 5 left-handed hitters in the everyday lineup.

Manny might make Lou a bit crazy, but he wouldn't mind him so much when he is hitting during the 81 games at Wrigley, 8 at the Juice Box, 3 or 4 at Coors (sans humidor), etc.

Come to think of it, he wouldn't mind having Manny at any ballpark b/c Manny hits a ton no matter where he plays.

PLEASE GET MANNY, MR. HENDRY!!!

Eyre has a limited no-trade clause.

Wow, That line-up is sick sick sick.

If Manny is a Cubs, surely Murton won't be.

If this were a perfect world, as Vance suggested keep Murton in LF and move Manny to RF. Then you could trade Jones for anything.

Yeah I'd never insult Hendry if he could pull this off. Too bad I'm getting my hopes up...

Haven't paged through, but Buster Olney was just on with Dan Patrick and said that Manny could be had now for a deal similar to what the Yankees got for Mussina. I think Hendry should offer Pie, Mateo, and Novoa for Manny

You mean what the Yanks got for Sheffield?

Humberto Sanchez is probably worth more than all of those guys put together.

Who knows if we are even on the list of teams that Manny would consider to be traded to? Giants, Dodgers, Padres-it certainly sounds like he wants to go to a west coast team.

IIRC, that is not what he said.

He said that those are the teams that have shown interest / had discussions with the Sox so far and appear to be most serious.

I would assume that he is mostly speculating about the teams involved, and since the Cubs got their big money hitter this offseason, he doesn't figure the Cubs are involved. I'm not saying they are involved, but I doubt Buster Olney knows either way. I remember hearing Tim Kurkijan on ESPN 1000 about a week before we signed Soriano listing about 5 or 6 teams in the hunt for Soriano ahead of the Cubs. Maybe Bruce could confirm if they have or don't have interest in Manny.

I would be willing to give up a lot for Manny.

Imagine:

Soriano

DeRosa

Lee

Manny

Aramis

Barrett

Pie

Izturis

They could add 2 lower level pitchers and be the best team in the NL

Zambrano, Hill, Prior/Miller, Meche, Ohka/Maddux/or similiar...with Prior or Miller, Marshall, Mateo, Cotts as other starting pitching options.
