Dave Kaplan just rpeported on WGN radio that there is a "Strong Rumor" going around that Man Ram will be traded to the Mariners.

I'd be shocked if Manny would agree to be traded to Canada. :D

But, anything to get Seattle out of the Schmidtstakes.

Agreed. If they're out, I'd feel really good about our chances of getting him.

While we're at it, here's praying Luis Gonzalez signs with the Dodgers.

Gammons on Sportscenter just said the Red Sox set a 12 noon deadline tommorow to trade Manny. If anything doesn't get done by tommorow, they will not be trading him.

Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown says the Red Sox have asked the Mariners for J.J. Putz, Adam Jones and a third player in return for Manny Ramirez.

That's not quite what the Dodgers had to offer, but it would be a decent return if the Red Sox need to dump salary after landing J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo. Also, it's realistic for the Mariners, as they have Rafael Soriano to put into the closer's role. Whether it's truly doable for Seattle may depend on whether Ramirez wants his $20 million options for 2009 and 2010 picked up as part of a deal.

That's all the Red Sox want? We could do better than that. Jacque, Eyre and Player

Throw Soriano in CF, Murton in RF, Manny in LF.

Soriano

Murton

Manny

Lee

Ramirez

Barrett

Derosa

Izzy

Division.

That's not better at all. JJ Putz was a great closer for the M's this year. Jacque is an average 31 year old OF and Eyre is a slightly above average middle reliever. That player you're tossing in there would have to be named Pie or Veal.

That's not a better offer. Teams are as equally concerned about number of years controlled as they are production and salary. The Mariners control Jones for many years to come, which is key.

I'd do it in a heartbeat to get 300/400/550 out of LF.

Whatever it takes. Throw any of our Entree or Dessert prospects in there. Manny would give us one of the best offenses in baseball.

Well I'm still sure that wouldn't get it done. Pie and Veal haven't proven a thing at the major league level, so you're getting two average guys in their 30s and a minor leaguer who is still a question mark. They'd want to know they're getting something good, young and proven - Hill, or maybe Murton. Otherwise, they'll take Putz and the great year he had last year, plus I think a year or two til he's a UFA.

If we get Manny, Pie is close to expandable with a new OF of Murton-Soriano-Manny.

Veal (and Gallegher) are guys I hear a lot about -- all outstanding stuff -- but I have no opinion. How far away are they to ML-ready, and do they both project as eventual starters?
