now that lee's back, and he can't fall back on that one anymore, baker is back to playing the "we have too many rookies" card.

"I know what I can do," he said. "My track record speaks for itself. It's not like I just started yesterday. It's a little disheartening how soon people forget, though, that I haven't had my team. I've had 11 starters, and six or seven have been rookies."

doesn't really explain the worst offense in baseball, however.

Let's see,

Marshall

Marmol (3 games)

Guzman (1 game?)

Ryu (not even 1 game)

Can't think of any more. Not quite exactly 6 or 7 dustybag. And how many games did you give Rusch? You didn't use the Kids ENOUGH dumby!!

Rookies who have started games at a position other than pitcher for the Cubs this season:

Angel Pagan

Freddy Bynum

Dusty, please make sure to mention the rook pitchers by name next time you think to chuck em' under the bus: Marmol, Marshall, Ryu, Hill, Aardsma...Rusch...

He would rather have veterans like Pierre, Neifi, and Rusch.

Come one, come all, if you're an unproductive veteren without a contract, head over to the North Side of Chicago. Your past accomplishments will earn you 4 years, $20M and an oppurtunity to play everyday!!!

I had to.

In his own mind, I think Dusty is including Murton and Cedeno with the dreaded rookies.

Of course he is. And they might actually be rookies if they hadn't wasted so much pine time up here last season. :x

Yet another example of what a poor Manager Dusty is, rather than standup, take the blame and admit what a terrible job he's done. Dusty chooses the gutless and cowardly tactic of blaming the young players and basically, everyone else who has played for the Cubs this season. No wonder they're playing like they've quit, they're not good enough anyway, Dusty' so much as told him so with all of his "I want my team back, etc." garbage. Despite my immense dislike of everything Cardinal, I've not read of LaRussa blaming they're current 6 game losing streak on Pujols' just returning from the DL or anything of the sort. Bottom line - Dusty and his whole pathetic excuse for a Coaching staff has to go, yesterday couldn't have been soon enough.

It's been the rookies, the veterans, the washed-up-has-beens, the manager, and coaches' fault that this has fast become the worst Cubs team in 20 years. What makes this team worse is that we are underachieving, whereas past Cubs teams just haven't had any talent.

Frankly, there isn't one player on this team that hasn't disappointed me this year.

What's wrong with that? It's a highly likely scenario and I don't see it as a terrible excuse.

Good Lord.

What's wrong with it? It's another excuse that Dusty is using to defend the team's poor play. There is no excuse for this team to have the record it has, but Dusty will do his best to try and find it.

I actually didn't think we'd get as much as we've had from Ronny Cedeno, so he's relaly been the one to exceed expectations. Considering I didn't even expect Marshall to be in the majors, I think you have to include him, too.

Everyone else has been disappointing on some level or another, or exactly as mediocre as promised. Some due to injury (Lee, Prior, Wood), some to stupidity (Barret), some due to suckiness (Pierre, Rusch, Neifi, Ramirez, etc.)

Is he saying that the team might struggle because Lee won't be himself for a while? Was he using it as an excuse?

I didn't read the article, but in the way it was posted I saw nothing wrong with that quote.

Anyone with less than 7 years playing experience is a rookie to this guy. Be a man and don't blame them Baker will you?

Oh yeah Baker, explain how Florida is doing so much better than the Cubs too while you're at it?

Coward.

You know let Baker just go ahead and giving excuses like this. Since he's basically saying "the team I have now sucks". . I think the team feels this way too and based on how their playing, it looks like they've QUIT on him. This is VERY GOOD, and I LIKE IT!!

Baker insisted he manages all the time as if there is pressure to win. He also voiced disappointment over what he sees as people overlooking his winning record over 13¨ years as a big-league manager.

“I don’t always feel my job’s at stake, but I always feel I’ve got to win,” he said. “I knew that when I took every job I’ve had. And we’re going to win. It might take awhile for D-Lee to get back to D-Lee.

“Right now, to tell you the truth, I’m not worried about it because worry does no good. I know I know what I can do. My track record speaks for itself. It’s not like I just started yesterday. It’s a little disheartening how soon people forget that or the fact that I haven’t had my team.”

Translation:

It's not my fault this team sucks. I'm perfect and above reproach. I should get the benefit of the doubt because of injuries, and now that injured guys are back I should be given more leeway because they probably won't be 100% right away. I'm great and my teams are always great unless somebody else screws up. Why can't people remember how great I am? :(

This is just surreal. He is always so willing to take the credit for when they do well and so quick to blame others when they struggle. Off course God forbid Hendry admit his mistake and release this guy....he won't even release Rusch.

And this was the exact same reputation he had in SF. This shouldn't be any sort of surprise to "baseball people".
