HIS Players, kinda sounds like a certain Larry Brown, eh?

They should make a 365 day calendar with a different Dusty excuse each day. I'd buy it.

The fans that bought tickets to Wrigley bought it too. If I spent this much money on a team managed by Baker I'd be quite upset.

I like the Brown comparison, because I think the Cubs should do the same thing the Knicks just did: Fire Baker, then make it clear that Hendry must show significant progress next year or else he's gone too.

"We've got a chance to make it respectable," Baker said of the season. "When have I had Michael and D-Lee in the lineup at the same time and [Phil] Nevin and the rest of the guys? I think we can make it respectable."

Way to remind people that you've yet to be able to trot out the killer Lee, Barrett, Nevin lineup that all the league is fearful of.

Ugh. Looks like no retooling for 2007. Respectability (read 'job-saving') will be Dusty's goal.

I hate the fact that the excuses never stop.

I hate the fact that he is the manager.

I hate the fact that most reporters are more than willing to just accept his garbage and not challenge him one bit.

Most of all, I hate the fact that this jerk is making me root against my favortie team just so he can be removed from it.

Well, to be fair, no team should start retooling before the All star break.

Granted, Dusty will never do that while he's the manager. The first step in any rebuilding is to get rid of him.

However, we could always turn things around, go on a 12-15 game run, and be well... 5 games under .500... but if those games were all against the central, who knows where we'd be!

Hey, is that BLUE kool-aid?

The "rest of the guys" no doubt includes Neifi at 2B and batting second, Womack (yes I know he's in AAA) at SS and Pierre in CF and leading off even though said lineup would be far from respectable.

How do you define "respectable", Dusty? Playing .500 for the rest of the season? Really getting a "run" going and flirting with getting back to .500? Either is not "respectable" in my opinion with a $100 million payroll, fool.

Either way, Dusty has now said A) they're out of the race and B) his goal is not to put the team in the best position to win next year, but to make himself look as good as possible. This is not something a gm can tollerate.
