By Saturday afternoon five Orioles had arrived early for spring training, the most prominent being new center fielder Corey Patterson. But he was told that team policy forbade him to do so until he passed a physical.

"I'm definitely excited to be here," he told the Washington Post.

pfft...still a lazy, uncoachable jerk. i bet he got there early solely so he could refuse more autograph requests.

Wait, Corey showing up early for spring training makes him lazy and uncoachable?

Sounds to me like he's trying to get off on the right foot with his new team. I don't understand the unnecessary Corey-hate.

He was being sarcastic.

The funny part of the article is where Corey said that too many people gave him suggestions or tried to change him last year. Hasn't he been saying that for the last few years. Seems like he never listened to them anyway, so I don't see how things will be any different in Baltimore. I wish him luck though.

Uncoachable? Yes, a good argument can be made there.

Refusing to sign autographs? I sat and watched @ HoHoKam while Walker, Neifi, Sosa, Martinez all refused to sign autographs. Then CPatt came along and signed for 45 minutes. He was the only one.

I realize it was just one day, but based on that experience I would say you're a little off base on the autographs comment.

New team=report to camp early. If Sosa signed with a team he wulda had to report in January. Just sitting in AZ all by himself running to the RF bleachers waving to empty bleachers.

Except Corey was early every year.

I hope the change of scenery does Corey a world of good. I really wish it would have worked out for him in Chicago. I'll miss you CPatt.

I just find myself wondering if it was either Corey Patterson's unwillingness/inability to adjust or Dusty Baker refusal to take him out of the lineup that cost the Cubs the 2005 season.

I think it was a combination of the two, I really do.

It was a lot more than that.
