I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but Jacque was offered arb by the Twins and this will cost the Cubs their second, third and fourth round picks.

2nd and 3rd were already gone because of Eyre and Howry. But, yeah, it's been mentioned. It's probably about 10 pages back now, so certainly bears repeating.

Well, Hendry better either get Tejada and a good platoon man for RF or hope the Cubs have lots of luck in the health department this season.

a team w/ a 100 mil payroll shouldn't need platoon buddies for their corner OFer's.

Good in theory, but what RF was out there that's far superior? Unfortunately, Giles & Abreu were pipedreams.

Bring on Rondell White.

Oh, it's been mentioned. Just makes it that much sweeter. :puke:

Well, i have been away from the computer all day-I log on and read this-

Tim, you have always put forth such a great product at NSBB-Fun for everyone-always stiving to be respectful of one another. Thus in the spirit of that I will now give anyone the right to look away from the screen-

WHAT IN THE HOLY VUK IS GOING ON? JOCK JONES? SO, THATS WHAT A [expletive] FLAVORED POP TART TASTES LIKE.....MMMMM.......SWALLOW DOWN THAT LONG SEASON GIRLS-

HENDRY=DUMBASS MORAN.

You may now continue your civilized reading.

You may want to edit out the feces reference.

You may want to get rid of that HUGE trump pic.

:pukel:

Yeah, I was messing around with different pics till I found one I liked that wasn't really huge.

Sorry about that. Heh.

I just had a scary thought. What if the Cubs plan to bat him second behind Pierre. Didn't he leadoff for the Twins?

Unless Dusty decides to go with Neifi in the 2-hole, I think you can pretty much bank on Jones batting second.... he is fast after all....

I was thinking 4th initially ( ) but second wouldn't surprise me. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Knowing Dusty, the 2 and 5 holes are probably interchangeable between Walker (if the Cubs keep him) and Jones.

Jones sucks, but you have a point.

Abreu - Phillies wanted a front line starter, and Jim should't have and didn't offer Z or Prior.

Giles - Retrospect tells us that he really wasn't going to leave SoCal.

Dunn - Once Casey was traded, Dunn was off the table.

Huff - Hendry probably should have offered Hill, but if Aubrey repeats his 2005 numbers, the defensive difference between he and Jones would have erased the offensive edge he had over Jones.

Mench - Hendry tried and was tuned down.

Wilkerson - same as Mench.

Bradley - Could have had him, but not sure it would have been a good idea. Would have been better than Jones, though.

Wilson - Would have been marginally better than Jones, and would probably have taken less years.

So the realistic alternatives to Jones were really Bradley and Wilson. They probably would have been better, especially considering Jones got 3 years. Having said that, I never really thought we would get a huge upgrade in RF.

Pierre

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Jones

Barrett

Cedeno

Murton?

Crap, I don't know how to do this.

YES

If we're forced into this crap, let's at least have some depth. White or C. Wilson should start on this team, but we should get them even though they won't because they aren't "athletic".

[rant]What bloody good does it do to be athletic in baseball? Is being athletic going to get you more hits? more extra base hits? More K's pitching? No, they don't do any of that. The only thing you could remotely claim it helps you is on a small handful of defensive plays, and I'm sure glad we sacrificed a vast majority of our offensive output trying to look good while we glide to the ball in the field.[/rant]

BTW, that was directed at Hendry's comments, not at anyone else.

XZero it sounds like Coletti didn't want to deal with the Cubs, and if they did get Bradley they would have had to give up a good prospect. Didn't Oakland give up their minor league position player of the year?

Really, I think if Hendry adds a player like Eduardo Perez, White or Craig Wilson and keeps Walker and Patterson, I think we'll be all right. That is as long as the pitching comes through.

I'm not sure about the award, but they gave up a good pospect. I also heard something about Coletti not wanting to deal with the Cubs.

I think there's still bad blood between him and Dusty.

Why not? I'm sure he could have gotten a king's ransom from Hendry.

I just read 37 pages of thread. I'm as disgusted as anyone at this pathetic signing, and seats on the "I Hate Jim Hendry" BandWGN are going fast, so pick them up quickly.

Amazingly ironic that CFICT is the only one trying to be optimistic about this signing.

I hate Freedom Fries Jones.

If so, he would have. Cmon.

Don't we have to trade Pie now? Pierre is here for this year and probably beyond. Jones and Murton are locked up for the next 3 years at least. Patterson is currently our 4th outfielder and has an opportunity to change his fate with this team.

So the way I see it is the Cubs have to cash in their biggest chip with Pie and combine him in a trade with Hill and probably Jerome Williams and acquire the best possible veteran star level talent he can - be it a SP or a position player.

Of course you'd need to find a team willing to trade such a player for prospects and a SP. I'm starting to think that teams don't value Pie as much as we the fans do. It's either that or Hendry is dead set against trading him.

It's too bad we can't go back to last year's trade deadline when we could have added a star player by trading Pie and Hill. Their demand seemed to have peaked back then.

Whatever it is it will involve us eating 40% of his salary if he can't exceed a .260 batting average. And if he exceeds .280, the Cubs probably won't be inclined to trade him.

Can you say catch-22 Cub fans?
