Hendry signs Jones for 3/$16 million

The problem with those expected finishes is that it would still give the Cardinals 92 wins and the Cubs 85 wins. Has the horrible off-seasons closed the gap? I expect the Cubs to hover around .500 and make a huge move at the deadline with their extra money. The Cardinals are strapped and have lost a lot of talent. We shall see. I"m not giving up the season but I am definitely disappointed.

 

It's slowly sinking in... 3 years for Jones? Three years? I would rather have paid $9 million for a season of Preston Wilson than three years of Jones, regardless of price. The only way that deal could be worse is if he got a no trade clause.

 

The only silver lining is that there is no way that Hendry makes this move if Kerry Wood is hurt throughout April. I can't believe that Jones will make the Opening Day roster and Wood won't.

Actually the Cubs HAVE upgraded CF, RF, LF, SS (assuming RC plays) and the bullpen. I know the signings aren't ideal but they have been upgraded...

Maybe, its been a bad offseason for the Cards and who knows maybe the Cards will finish below their run diff.

A Jones/Eduardo Perez platoon would constitute a large upgrade over Burnitz. As long as you aren't paying a guy a ton of money, platooning is always a good option when the sitution calls for it.
