Sell high, buy low says the adage. D' Lee will be hard pressed to repeat last season. Would you trade him??

Personally I could see it if the price were right. The Angels are loaded with prospects. Maybe D.Lee for Kendry Morales and Howie Kendrick?

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't trade him for prospects. I would trade him for ARod, or as part of a series of moves that improved the OF and helped us stay decent at 1B. Edited by USSoccer

I would take those 2 prospects, even with him we rank 22nd and we can find a first baseman.

And if you give a crap about where teams are ranked in ESPN's power rankings, I pity you.

I would definitely consider trading D.Lee. I share Hendry's sentiment that any deal that helps the team should be made.

Yes, I might would trade Lee, but I'd be unlikely to net a return large enough to make me want to pull the trigger on a deal. We're not rebuilding, so I'd have to get some major players back to even think about it.

Lee + Hill for Wilkerson and Johnson

Johnson to the Rockies for Helton

Sign Giles

wilkerson, cf

murton, lf

helton, 1b

giles, rf

aram, 3b

barrett, c

walker, 2b

cedeno, ss

Ofcourse, it only makes sense if the Nats are willing to give Lee an extension. Not sure if they have the money to do that though.

You will never be able to get full value for a stud firstbasemen, because replacements are so easily available.

Why not just keep Nick Johnson and not deal with Helton's contract?

Derrek Lee had a phenominal year that he will probably never come close to repeating. Being a firstbaseman might hurt his value, but it's never going to be higher anyway, so it makes sense to try and leverage that year into a very good player at a more difficult position to fill, like CF or SS. Even trading him in for a good corner outfielder might not be such a bad idea, although it seems like Lee should be able to handle a corner himself.

I'd be all for a trade that would benefit this team in any way, even if it involved Derrek Lee.

As much as people love being pessimistic on this board, the NL was quite weak this past season. Heck, if the Cubs had a competent manager, they could have actually nabbed the Wild Card slot. No one's doubting that this team has plenty of talent and potential. Even if Wood goes down again, Prior and Zambrano are two of the best young pitchers in baseball today. The Cubs have a lineup that is potent and could do damage.

But, trading Lee away would immediately remove one of the most important pieces of that lineup. What's more, while Lee is a very good offensive threat, he is also an excellent defensive first baseman who makes our middle infielders look waaaaaaaaaay better than they already are. We can find plenty of guys out there who are good offensive threats at 1B (and have one in our system in Brandon Sing), but who can do both? That's a bit harder to find.

So, I'd only advocate trading Lee if we got a true impact bat out of the deal. We're talking an elite-level hitter who could put the Cubs over the top.

Otherwise, I would not do it.

how could you ever even think about trading this guy????

well he might not be able to repeat last years numbers but how do you know? this guys going into his prime and maybe he has found him self?

you never know,,,,

but i would do it for pujols :P

give the cards all our top ranked prospects!

man this would be a dream!

Keep in mind that I really want no one else at first as long as Aram is throwing there. His defense alone is underrated. Sure he wont match last year, but the amount of errors he's saved singlehandedly would HAVE to be replaced if we trade him. Just remember who's throwing to him.

Overbay, Milwaukee will likely shop him with Fielder incoming. He's a solid offensive 1B(good-great OBP) that by some metrics was better defensively than Lee this year.

Why is it that everyone has decided that Lee is going to regress from his stats this year? To trade Lee, I would want a comparable player (i.e. .300+ BA, 40+ HR, 100+ RBI, excellent defense, and prime of his career age). Now if there are any available players out there with those qualifications, we'll talk.

Not many teams would be the slightest bit interested in trading for Lee. They'd have to give up something significant and Lee only has a year remaining on his contract.

I wasn't aware of DLee's contract situation. That would make him tougher to trade.

I would like to emphasize that I would only trade him if the deal was fantastic. Not only does him bring a big bat and glove to the team, IMO he also is one of the best leaders we have had on the team for a long time.

But if I may use the Mariners as an example. Trading Griffey and Johnson were two smart moves. Also, in hindsight, the Cubs should have traded Sosa when they had the chance.

I would also like to point out that I am envious of the Angel's depth of infield prospects. Wood, Morales, Kendrick, Callaspo, Aybar,.... and think that the Cub's management should be doing all it can to relieve LA of their problem.

I would trade any player on this team if it made the Cubs better. If the Cubs worked out a deal with the Rockies to get Helton and another very good player I'd do that trade.

Anybody see Derrek Lee getting extended during season training? I really doubt he's gonna get traded but I can see Hendry offering him a monster contract in March that we'll possibly be regretting by 2009.

Hendry already said something about a deal getting done before ST. IIRC> he said someithing like, "this is the perfect situation. We love him and he loves playing in Chicago."
