Anybody know Dusty's email. He needs to read the part about not giving up on a small sample size. The kid is their for a reason, you just have to trust whoever wanted him up there. I love that part.

Great story.

Here's a fun game: What do you think Cox's lineup would be if he were the Cubs manager this year. You can include anyone who was in the system at all this season.

1B: Lee

2B: Walker

SS: Cedeno

3B: Aram

LF: Murton

CF: Hairston/Pie/Patterson(batting 8th)

RF: Burnitz/Greenberg

C: Barrett

I cant say for sure how he'd line them up. But he wouldnt be affraid to play the good players over the old ones

Cox wouldn't have let Corey get so screwed up this year.

No Nomar? Would Cedeno have had a chance to prove himself when he was hurt, and won the job? Also you don't put Dubois anywhere? I think that perhaps Cox would have stuck with him. Where are Macias and Perez. Surely the Cubs couldn't perform w/o them.

I agree.

I also think that if Mezzone had come with him, Hill would be in the starting rotation, and who know's (I hesitate to say this) Hawkins still in the pen, setting up Dempster (or Fox).

the coaching staff really needs to get overhauled.

To think that they are worth more losses than wins makes me sick.

Hopefully last year of dusty, I think we need to replace rothschild this year tho.

I agree Dusty has handled Corey very poorly. How do you think Cox would have done it?

He would have let Corey be Corey instead of trying to turn him into Brett Butler.

wife beater and all around cracker.

Jealous, are we?

Where would such animosity come from?

I think the Braves will end up taking out the Cardinals in the NLCS this season, don't you?

On point: Cox is a very good manager who knows his stuff. If the Cubs had him as a manager, they would be at least ten games better, IMO.

Cox's ability to develop winners from a variety of teams with talent, without talent, young, veteran, etc. is a testiment to the affect that a good manager can have on a team.

With respect to striking his wife in 1995 and prior years, he clearly had a problem and, hopefully, consuling has prevented any further domestic abuse in his household. I respect the job he has done as a manager, but I do have trouble respecting him as a person. Domestic abuse is an awful thing and I can understand why people would react negatively to Bobby Cox, no matter what his managerial accomplishments.

Personally, I would love the Cubs to get a manager like Bobby Cox, just maybe not Bobby Cox himself.

He would've benched him a long time ago. That's what. For all the justified criticism that has been given to Dusty about not giving young players a chance, he made no such mistakes with CPatt. And I still don't see how Dusty has tried to change Corey- the Cubs are a free swinging team, and that's in large part due to Dusty. I've never seen a manager who defends the free swinging and slugging attitude like Dusty.

I'm not disputing that Cox is a great manager, because he is, and this year is in my mind his finest season.

But I think the Braves 14 year run has really been aided by the mediocrity of the NL east over that time. Their competition has been the Expos, 'nough said, the Mets, perenial stupid-contract-hander-outers, Marlins, flashes of extreme brilliance but overall terrible, and the Phillies, perenial under-achievers.

The 14 year run is more attributable to the Braves system, for which Schuerholz, scouts, and minor league coaches deserve most of the credit.

I'd say the Braves success is combination of Shuerholz and Cox. Both have contributed greatly to it, and both work extremely well together. I've said it before, and will say it again, but over the last two decades, the Braves have been the best run organization in baseball, if not all sports.
